My DD is 15 months, but only has two teeth!!! Should I be worried?

My DS was late, and his first tooth sprouted at 13 months, then whoosh, they came thick and fast, but DD has had her first two since 12 months, but nothing since. She is clearly in a lot of pain and we douse her with calpol regularly. I spoke to my dentist in Jan, and he said the range is anything from 5-14 months, but even after 14 months, there is nothing they can do. Has anyone else LO's taken so long? Should i worry? xx

Ds didn't get a tooth till 15 months and the rest have been very slow coming he's 21months now and only just getting the last of his front bottom teeth and he still has loads of others missing.

My DS was quite late with his teeth, I can't remember exactly how late but he was way behind his peer group. He used to get pain about six weeks before the tooth actually came through, but didn't seem to suffer at all at the final cutting through the gum stage. I wouldn't worry, it's one of those things that they all do in the end. I found bikkipegs quite good when he was at the compulsive chewing stage.

dd 15 months and had only 4 teeth untill lst week when she got 2 more, i would not worry. x

Tortington · 19/03/2007 08:54

do you think your child will have no teeth at 6? gummy frogett starts school? why worry? kids get teeth.

Wolfgirl · 19/03/2007 08:59

custardo, no darlin' I would hope not. But Ive let my imagination run wild, thinking stuff like her going to the dentist and having to have her gums cut to let them through. Off-beat yes! But Im the mummy and thats our job, to worry! LOL. Im sure she will be fine too. It was still nice to get other mums experiences though, without being 'shut-down' by a comment like yours. Thanks for your input though.

i'm sorry for the way you recieved my comments, it wasn't how they were intended.

Hulababy · 19/03/2007 09:09

DD didn't get her first tooth until 13 months and tehn they were int he "wrong" order. Her front bottom two teeth didn't come through for a long time and I was a bit worried so asked my dentist. We got a referral to the children's dental hospital who checked it out. First visit they couldn't feel anything so we went back a few months later when both were through.

If concerned I would see your dentist again, if only to put your mind at rest.

Hi there
My DD has no teeth at 15months, and no signs of teething! She can eat most stuff though, just gums it down. Funny this thread should appear - I posted a similar one a while ago and got similar responses.
Like you say, there's not much we can do about it is there!
I actually rang the dentist this am to ask advice - have to ring back at 9:15. Will let you know what he/she says!
I think they'll tell me not to worry until 18months.

sandydut you are so bloody rude!We all don't like you not custy!

Wolfgirl · 19/03/2007 09:17

Oh ladies please dont argue. I only meant to share my concerns, not attract a bun fight. Please dont fight on my thread , life's too short for that. Sorry Custardo, didnt mean to bite back so harshly, just a little worried - thats all.

Wolfgirl- they will all come at once

fibernie · 19/03/2007 09:26

Dentist update. He said not to worry, they wouldn't investigate until 2years. Said if she's got none by 18months to take her in and they'll look at her gums.
Hope that helps - I'm reassured.

as someone has said, i dont think you need to worry till age 2.
ds1 was a little slow then had a full set overnight! lol

Wolfgirl · 19/03/2007 09:46

Maybe its a good/better thing then, for them all to 'happen' overnight. Rather than drag on, but having said that, my poor DD is suffering, biting her hand, pulling her ears, waking through the night (even though we give her calpol). Its a horrid time for them, hey! Thanks Ladies for your input, much appreciated. xx

wolfgirl, all mine were seriously late getting their teeth, I did take one of them to the dentist as I wwas getting really concerned and she just laughed at me " what do you want me to do, pull them through the gums!"
They did all appear eventually, and I didn't have as many problems with teething children as those whose teeth appeared at a more normal age - though we had about a million months of dribbling.

LadyOfTheFlowers · 19/03/2007 10:05

oh i see.

BikeBug · 19/03/2007 11:18

Hi Wolfgirl, just wanted to say my DS is 12 months and has one tiny fragment of visible tooth, has been teething (and in obvious discomfort) for ages and I was worrying too until I read some of the replies on here. Were you late teething yourself? Apparently it does run in families (I was 11 months and DH 10 months before we got teeth, I'm told...)

Wolfgirl · 19/03/2007 11:24

Good point BikeBug , but my mum cant remember. re DD, I can see all the pesky teeth sitting there under her gums, everything looks soooooooo sore ; Im very sure now - after reading everyones responses - that they will come through in their own time. I did get nervous having visions of the gums being cut or some other drastic measure. My sister made up a dribble song for my DS, and even at 3, he sings it now. LOL. xx
