DD (2 in 2weeks) saw the community peadiatrician yesterday as she still can't walk independently. She can just manage with one hand she pulls up and cruises but won't push a baby walker. The Dr was very helpful, she spent an hour playing with DD, talking to me and measuring and weighing her. She looked at all aspects of development. The conclusion was that she is normal for a 2yr old for all things (strings 2 words together, matches simple shapes in puzzle, plays with toys not just throwing them, has a tantrum, can use a spoon, is active at kneeling, bum shuffling, crawling, stnding) she was rated at the level of a 15mnth old for gross motor skills as she can't walk unaided but can crawl upstairs (not down).
The paediatrician said there was nothing to worry about, no treatment needed and she will see her again in 2 mnths as she should be walking by then.
This was very reasurring. I wanted to post this as it is worrying when they don't walk and it was definately worth seeing the paediatrician. I wish we'd seen her sooner. If you have similar worries ask your GP to refer your child (she said they follow up walking from 18mnths old).
