19 month old won't sit to eat

Hi all,
Apologies if this is the wrong place for this.
I was hoping you all might have suggestions on how to get my son to sit at the table to eat.
He's not a fussy eater and will gladly get up to his high chair at the beginning of a meal (high chair is one of those ones with the adjustable height and removable tray.) he'll eat a few bites then he's off. If we allowed it, he'd be back and forth to eat.
If he does stay in his high chair he'll want to stand which is really dangerous.
I just want him to sit down and finish a meal.
Thanks!

My ds is a bit older (2.7) and not in a highchair anymore but will leave the table regularly at meal times if the kitchen door is open! His toys are in the other room - and a TV - and I think the door open is a reminder of fun calling elsewhere!
If I shut the door he seems to stay sat down and finish his meal without a fuss.

Yes, shut the door if you have one. Don't let him get down and try some relaxing classical music or an audio book.

Can't you just strap him in?

Sparrowlegs248 · 08/05/2017 20:39

Yes, strap him in. Don't let him get out or stand, until the meal.is done.

Yes, reins harness to strap him in. Pretty unsafe to have child not strapped in at that age. Ignore tantrums to get down and just distract him.
