IMO it's too much for a 5 year old. Have heard a lot of mothers complain that it affects their children, and would be very wary to let mine watch it - they're 6 and 8.

PestoMonster · 10/03/2007 21:10

I stopped mine watching it because they were copying the bolshy behaviour and I didn't think it was appropriate. DDs are 9 & 7 now and still only watch it occasionally and then I still remind them that I don't want them copying the behaviour on it.

My DSS used to watch this when he was about 3, he loved watching the "Shouty Girl" as he called her! He doesn't watch it now afaik, but yes it is aimed at an older age group. If you think it is influencing her behaviour, yes i would try to find an alternative.

have just stopped ds1 aged 4.5 from watching this and horrid henry, he was getting stroppy enough without picking up all that extra rubbish. he did love them both though
heard him telling next door neighboor (10) that he's not allowed to watch it now cos it makes him naughty !

I would say 5 probably too young, my dd is 9 and I know she is influenced by it. I ban it for a while if I catch her behaving Tracy style.
She is obsessed with all Jacqueline Wilson books, I thought they were quite helpful for her when xp and I broke up, as they are usually about broken homes and a lot of gritty real life situations - but I realised she'd taken it all a bit far when she asked me the other day if she has a social worker! And was a bit put out to find that she doesn't!

5 is to yong for Tracey beaker. This is ained at children over 8.

i agree with you all just stopped her and told her she was acting like them and nice people don't behave like tracey beaker. we switched over for timothy goes to school . we did lots of alternative things this week-end. with the brighter evenings will stop at swing park or be busy at 4pm . I don't want my lovely girl being influenced by dribble.

My eldest are 12 and 13, and I've banned them from watching it. Vile programme.

Tinker · 11/03/2007 21:51

Oh god yes, ban it. I know we're all meant to think Jaqueline Wilson books are fab but TB is so obnoxious and spoilt and rude and brattish. The child has no redeeming features and I'd like JW to explain to parents of girls what, exactly she thought she was playing at writing such a horrible character for them to emulate.

Can you tell I hate her

Polgara2 · 11/03/2007 22:37

I've just banned it in our house too (dds 6 and 9). DD1 said oh do you think that's where I'm getting my 'attitude' from then? . Can you tell we've had words .
