Oh Crisp that sounds so hard. How are things today? You might be best asking MNHQ to move this thread to the allergies board as you may get a few more responses Smile

Is he on any anti reflux medications?

Crispmonster1 · 08/04/2017 13:24

Thank you I will ask MNHQ. He was dreadful last night. We only have gaviscon which I don't feel does anything. GP said they wouldn't prescribe anti reflux meds as we needed to treat the cause. I'm not convinced of their diagnosis to be honest.

Nice guidelines for the management of GORD

ChampagneSocialist1 · 08/04/2017 13:36

I'd try smaller volume feeds but more often to see if this makes any difference.

We have just this week been prescribed nutramigen for CMPA. (Dd 16 weeks). She was such a very sicky baby (her worst symptom initially as ebf for 15 weeks) plus mucous nappies, but we only made the connection after her first ever bottle of formula when she got a rash. Her symptoms have all completely gone in 5 days on nutramigen. We do still have to use newborn teats but it's been a complete gamechanger. I think the advice is to give any new formula 2 weeks to settle down but if it continues not working definitely get the gp to prescribe a different one

Babydreaming · 12/04/2017 16:32

We started on alfamino 5 days ago and are having similar issueS! My baby is taking more and diarrhoea has resolved but he's screaming the place down and wriggling about in pain after feeds. I think the thinner formulas aggrevate reflux! We are on max dose omeprazole and gaviscon and it's still challenging!

Babydreaming · 12/04/2017 16:34

The other thing to consider is whether the similar is working.,is it treating his other symptoms? Hypoallergenic formulas like similar work on 90% of babies with CMPA but some babies need amino acid based formulas instead (that was the case for us!)

Babydreaming · 12/04/2017 16:34

Similac not similar

Crispmonster1 · 13/04/2017 22:30

He is MUCH less sniffly and congested. I believe it is working in that respect. dr next week so will aim to get a thickener. How did you know baby needed the other kind??

How did you know baby needed the other kind??. I've not had a baby with CMPA, it's me who has it, but I believe it's if the symptoms continue? Hopefully someone will be along soon who knows more Smile

Babydreaming · 14/04/2017 09:10

We trialled similac and infatrini (both hypoallergenic) but despite these he had ongoing diarrhoea, pain and blood in poo! This was how they realised he was in the 10% that needed amino acid based formula and within 2 days he was having normal poos. It's a bit of trial and error unfortunately!

Babydreaming · 14/04/2017 09:11

It hasn't solved all our problems though...he is still super fussy and takes tiny amounts!

Wedgehog- it's a wedge shaped pillow baby sleeps on to lessen reflux.
