My son is 10 weeks old Thursday coming, he's been on aptamil hungrier baby milk since he was 4 weeks old drinking 6ozs and still wanting more :/. The milk isn't satisfying him he's wanting a bottle every 2-3 hours.. can I give him baby rice once a day preferably tea time? Or is it far to early.. I'm a first time mum and really appreciate people's opinions and help. Smile

The baby foods say 4 months plus do they can sell more. If you do choose to wean at 17 weeks those foods are ok.
I would have a good chat with your HV for advice about weaning and look on the NHS website. Look up baby led weaning too, a good reason to wait until 6 months and no purees/mush to prepare.
It is hard when people say I gave mine such and such at 12 weeks and they're fine blah blah. Guidelines are there to advise parents and protect babies. You sound like you're do a good job.

I'll have a look on then websites and google stuff.. yeah it's hard when people say different especially elderly people and older family members.. thank you x

I had the same as you op - family members encouraging me to wean from too early etc. It's hard as for some people that was okay when they had their babies, and they may not know that the advice has changed. As I mentioned before, if you really want to you can wean from as early as 17 weeks, but it's worth speaking to your hv about this first.

I have started putting a spoon of Baby rice in my child’s 6 o clock bottle. She is 10 weeks old. She was drinking 5 ounces every 2 hours and is still hungry. I was told to try hungry milk but heard it made kids constipated so it put me off. I’m finding she’s getting on well with the spoon of Baby rice in her bottle at dinner and she seams more content after she’s drank it. She is 11lbs 4 and 10weeks old.

PP you’re not supposed to put anything else in the bottle except milk - they can choke on it!

the Baby rice isn’t actual rice, it dissolves in her milk. She is getting on so much better with this dinner feed. We were concerned she was drinking too much milk and it wasn’t filling her at all. She is a much happier baby

Have you read the full thread @Marge51? If your baby is hungry they need more milk, there's more calories in milk than in baby rice. Even though it dissolves in the milk it is still thickening it which is a choking risk.

A 10 week old baby's gut is not mature enough to be dealing with anything but milk.

Well like it or not they can choke and it’s not good for them so early. Have you done any research? Babies don’t always know what’s best for them. A 4yo might be a happy child if you fed them on just chocolate but doesn’t mean to say you should do it!

5/6 oz is really not a lot of milk. That’s what babies do, they drink a lot of milk! I’m not one to say you have to wait until 6 months on the dot but 10 weeks is well under half the recommended age! Baby aren’t that different.

I see what your saying but different countries have different opinions on the matter, I think each parent should do what they think is best for their child. As people have said the older generation weaned early and give advice to new mothers and also people who have had numerous of kids give seam to give the same advice. At the end of the day a mother knows what’s best for her child.
