How do you get a 4.5 year old out of the bath?!

My ds would stay in the bath at bedtime for over an hour which is a bit draining! How do you get him out??

Pull out the plug. If he screams blue murder leave the room until he's finished.

You can't lift him Confused exactly how big is this four year old?

SilenceOfThePrams · 09/03/2017 20:23

All sorts of reasons why someone might not be able to lift a slippery and resistant 4 year old.

I couldn't myself, on days when my back is playing up.

I can lift my 5 yr old or 3 yr old easily out of the bath when they're cooperating.

It's an entirely different matter if they don't want lifting.

I wouldn't be able to safely lift even my 3 yr old out of the bath if he didn't want to be lifted - he'd be naked, wet, slippery and thrashing and wriggling around. Even without back problems I'd be worried about accidentally losing my grip and dropping him.

I ask nicely several times and give lots of warnings then I say "this is the last chance, if you are not out by the time I get to three I am going to be extremely cross". Then I do "the face".

ginsparkles · 09/03/2017 23:07

I use now and next "now it's time for a bath and then pjs and a story"'and then give a two minute warning and remind her that after her bath it's pj's and story.

We have had a few nights of "I want to stay here, I can sleep in the bath" and I have just calmly told her she will be very cold and very uncomfortable in the bath, and that a warm comfy bed would be a much nicer place to sleep, so come on let's get into pjs and find a story you would like.

Just read some of these messages and thank you for the helpful advice. I cannot believe the remarks about my ds being overweight!!!! I have had a csection, a bad back and a new baby that's why I prefer not to lift!! No wonder women are under so much pressure to be perfect when you comments like this from what should be a supportive forum Confused

Hauling an unwilling 4 year old out of a slippery bath is not something anyone wants to attempt before trying out some nicer strategies first (even without being post CS) - hence OP asking here for ideas I guess...
