Has anyone had this before? Have you ever heard of a toddler who walks around the house happily but cannot get up on her own?
DD is our first and we are kind of lost as to what is within the limits of "normal" and what is not. I can't decide if (as people say) she will figure it out soon, or if there is a muscle strength problem that needs to be addressed.
She never crawled (hated being on her tummy) and always relied on us to pull her up when she wanted to get up. Bum shuffles pretty fast. She has been walking for two months now but still has no interest in trying to get up on her own when she is sitting down. Rather, she extends her arms to us and screams the house down.
I would love to hear from anyone who has seen this before. It would also be great to hear any tips you might have for trying to get her to pull herself up.
Thank you...

My son could not pull himself to standing until he was two and half years old. He didnt take his first steps until he was twenty months as he had orthopedic problems.

We were told by our child physio to get an adult kneel on the floor and sit the child so that he is sitting over the adult's knee. You then place an interesting toy just infront of the child and this encourages the child to lean forward and stand up to get the toy. You will need to hold the child's knees so they dont fall over. Its a bit difficult to describe with out a picture.

My son used to crawl over to some furniture to get himself to standing.

18 months is still really young. My little boy is now five years old and you would never know he had a problem.

sorry you just get the child to sit over one of the knees.

I guess if you are worried then prehaps its best to contact your GP and if necessary a proper child phsyio can show you what to do.

DD is now almost 20 months and she is still not pulling up.

She still doesn't put any weight on her knees and still does not even try to get up on her own.

Any suggestions? I am running out of ideas. And beginning to despair...
