Genius baby

I'm just wondering if there are ways that will ensure my baby's brain and development will be at peak levels.
I've read about foods mom's eat, music they listen to and routines they have that ensure baby's cognitive abilities and intellect when older are at peak levels.
Is any of it true? If so; whilst my baby is growing inside me, what do I do to allow for its brain to develop to its full capacity so that its problem solving abilities are advanced. ConfusedSmile

True that it's not that important in the grand scheme of things, but there are things you can do to help your baby's health & development. Eat oily fish, lots of greens. Cut down carbs. Breastfeed for as long as you can bare. But mostly, enjoy your LO and engage with them as much as you can xx

intelligence is largely down to genes. Taking the stupidity of your question into account, I really wouldn't get up my hopes for carrying a genius.

Meow, catwoman! Grin

Whatever you do, it won't increase your babies intelligence beyond its natural genetic potential so if it isn't a genius already you can't make it into one!

That said, pick the right parents, eat lots of oily fish, exercise when pregnant (reduces your blood sugar), feed the child on natural unprocessed foods, get them outside playing and getting muddy, let them be bored while at the same time providing lots of books... you might ensure they reach their potential.

Well... I have a theory. When pregnant with dc1 there was a buy one get one free on ante-natal omega 3. I took these tablets throughout my pregnancy, never missed a dose. Dc1 is very intelligent.
I couldn't afford the tablets with dc2, had to put my money towards actual food etc and dc2 struggles academically.
I took them with dc3 and she's very bright.
I guess if your eating healthily anyway you could get the omega 3 naturally but I do wonder if it has had an effect.

I'm a genius and the pressure is immense. I wish my mother had listened to less Mozart when I was in utero.

IrenetheQuaint · 18/01/2017 08:15

Read Latin poetry out loud to your foetus every day (making sure you get the pronunciation right). Maybe also worth solving some complex equations out loud too?

BitchPeas · 18/01/2017 08:23

What catwomen said.

bittapitta · 19/01/2017 22:18

Robin sounds like the extra stress in skint pregnancy with dc2 is the factor there - not omega 3 *

*Neither theory scientific!

EasterRobin · 19/01/2017 22:53

All that decent diet stuff mentioned before is good. Take your pregnancy supplements. Some people reckon talking to your bump helps... It's free and nice to do to bond with the little wiggler, so you might as well try it.

Then once you've had your baby, relax into the same confident delusion all parents have that their child is the smartest and cutest and kindest of all the babies. Job done!

It's all bullshit.

The only useful predictors of a childs future intellect are the following: the parents intellect, the parents level of education, and, depressingly, their income level.
