DS was 9lb 1.5oz at birth so was never going to be little but at 3 months he is now 17lb and he is massive! Huge thighs and belly and nearly out of 3-6 clothes already!
I breastfed for a month but couldn't seem to keep up with him, he now has 6 x 7oz bottles and has never gone more than 3 hours between bottles (he does sleep through for 11 hours though so I guess has to 'tank up' during the day (doesn't nap during day).

I'm just worried about whether he will even out and slim down or if he is going to stay overweight. He was 91st centile at birth and has now jumped up to the next line and is only 75th centile for length.

I don't know if this is something I should be trying to control or just leave him be. One health visitor said don't worry he's fine but try hungry baby milk (did that, no change) and the other looked fairly horrified and said 7oz a time at 3 months was far too much.

Just looking for experiences really, I'm worried we are setting him up for weight issues in life but I'm sure he is genuinely hungry...!

My son was 10ibs when born. He was chunky until he was waking really but it now almost 5 and is 'normal' build but quite tall for his age.

Both my boys were big: 9lb 4 and 9lb6.

FF they were hungry boys and piled weight on in first year. I just fed on demand and weaned using healthy foods, tried to avoid too much sugary crap (but everything fine in moderation I think).

Now they are 4 and 16mo....both very tall for their age but both slimmed down a lot when they started walking (ok, running!) around age 1....they both eat a lot but they never sit still and burn it all off.

DS1 was in 25th centile at birth and shot up to 98th at his 6 week check. Doctor told me I should feed him water instead of formula to keep his weight in check (which I ignored). He was just a hungry boy. Then he started walking and for about 8 months he gained almost no weight at all, despite eating like a horse. He's now bang on 50th centile for a 3yo.
DS2 is exactly the same, that's just the way my boys grow!

Thank you for all your stories I do feel better now that he will even out at some point. DD was only a couple of ounce less at birth and put on weight much slower, in fact at 3 months he looks identical to her at 5.5 months!) so it's been a bit of a shock to see the weight pile on but totally agree Patsy he is right where he should be in terms of amount of milk so nothing I can do there. Thank you for your wise words Smile
