Dd1 asked if she could make dh a cup of tea this evening - but I'm just too nervous to let her use the kettle!!! Am I being silly? She's 9.5 btw.

My dd is 11 and a good cook. She can make tea, omlettes, chocolate cake, chickhpea curry, omlettes and breakfast pancakes entirely on her own and tonight she and her dad produced a brilliant roast dinner for 10. She can follow a recipe so long as it's not too complicated. The chances of them having a major accident are so small - and the wonderful sense of achievement so huge that we should let them do it!

DS1 is dyspraxic, and has just started to make cups of tea and coffee (when he was 10). Now he's really flying though, and cooked a three course meal for us all last weekend!
DS2 has used the kettle since he was 8. He makes his own buckwheat pancakes, scrambled eggs or porridge for breakfast - he's now 9.
They both know they're only allowed to use the gas hob when there is an adult in the kitchen with them.
