Hi my 3 year old's nursery have raised concerns about his speech for the second time and for the second time I have taken him to a speech and language drop in at the local children's centre and both times have been told the following ; that his understanding is there, follows instructions, knows what we are talking about, he can talk in 3-4 word sentences albeit some words are mispronounced e.g. Lellow for yellow. He knows and can say colours, foods, animals, body parts, night and day, happy and sad, boy and girl etc. Nursery are saying he should be now speaking long sentences and giving opinions and telling stories. Speech and language are "not concerned " yet nursery are "very concerned". He is also not yet toilet trained as far as we have got is he can do wee at the toilet standing up but won't give up pull ups he also does it in the pull up . He will go to the toilet of his own accord but not if told to. Reluctant to try cold turkey again until warmer weather or at least not whilst it's freezing. I work full time and need holiday to book time off to stay in for a few days with some hardcore toilet training. Everybody else's child seems toilet trained earlier than my son. Any advice welcome thanks

You don't say what sort of nursery it is, but regarding speech their expectations seem totally unrealistic for a 3 yr old.

MANY toddlers and pre-school children will say 'lello' and similar 'difficult' sounds.

It's a day nursery that takes 0-5 there is a separate baby room and then the 2-5 room which my son is in. It's not attached to a school it's a private nursery but they take local authority funding when child turns 3. They follow the early years foundation.

Sounds exactly like my daughter (bar the toilet training, she's been dry since the summer).

I am really worried about her poor pronunciation and it's effect on her settling in at school come September. She has plenty to say but just difficulty getting it across. SALT say they aren't concerned, but I am
