Has anyone had a baby who has been hypotonic? What were the reasons for your baby's hypotonia and what was the outcome?
My DS was born five weeks early at the start of September and his low muscle tone/floppiness was noted by doctors while he was on neonatal. He was quite 'froggy' but frustratingly they weren't able to give us a reason for the hypotonia and Googling has revealed some very scary possibilities (I know, I really shouldn't Google stuff like this). They carried out various tests including a brain scan but all were normal.
Recently saw the paediatrician for a follow up appointment and he confirmed that DS is still slightly floppier than he should be (at the time of the appointment he was 6wks adjusted and the paediatrician pointed to his head lag and that it feels slightly as though he may fall through your hands when you hold him under his shoulders).
We've been warned that DS is likely to be developmentally delayed and have been referred to a physiotherapist to help him with his tone. At the moment the paediatrician doesnt think the hypotonia is linked to a condition as such - but I guess it's a waiting game really.
I just wondered if anyone else had gone through something similar, or has any suggestions on exercises or things I can do to help DS' tone?
