WHat am I doing wrong? He just wants to watch TV (the same programme over and over again) or curl up on my chest and sleep! He doesn't have a temp and it's starting to drive me mad. I've tried getting all his toys out etc - he's not interested. THis has been going on for a few days now. Have beeen out and about etc but as soon as we get home it starts up again. Help!

anyone had any experience of this type of behaviour?

No specific experience, but if my family's recent run of viruses are anything to go by he doesn't have to have a temp to be feeling off. Is he eating/drinking/sleeping ok?
If you are concerned about his health see your GP, otherwise vary acivities where you can, and don't stress about it!
Possibly could be co-inciding with a clingy phase, which will pass. Also the repetitive tv program bit is quite normal - something to do with trying to be able to predict what is going on in the world, and having a program where the same happens each time is reasuring. I think....

Reassuring

Holymoly321 · 15/02/2007 20:09

Hi BZ - his eating is off actually - and he is incredibly clingy at the mo, mostly when we 're at home tho as he loves exploring when we are out of the house!

teething?

poppiesinaline · 15/02/2007 21:12

or could just be a low grade virus thing.

How is he sleeping at night?

handlemecarefully · 15/02/2007 21:15

Is he drinking lots? (I notice eating is off - but what about fluid intake, anything unusual?)

RachelG · 15/02/2007 23:04

I'm a GP. Sounds like a virus to me. You know those bugs you get when you just feel really knackered and you want to curl up in front of your favourite TV programmes and eat chocolate? One of those.

I'm sure he'll be back to his old self again soon.

As for the repetitive TV thing - have you ever watched Teletubbies? They show the same scene over and over - I presume the experts have concluded that kids like it. Mind you, I have to confess I've watched "When Harry Met Sally" about a thousand times, so maybe it's not just kids!

Holymoly321 · 16/02/2007 08:49

Hi RachelG - he's drinking lots of water - he is prefering it to milk at the moment. Does this sound like a virus? It just seems strange that when we are out he's fine but when we are home I can't do anything without him hanging on to me!

my ds is the same age and is the same. verrrry clingy at the mo.

Holymoly321 · 16/02/2007 09:00

PMD - isn't it a nightmare!!! I even have to hold him in my arms when I make porridge or else it's waaah waaah waahh!! Lets hope it's a BRIEF phase! Is your DC sleeping at night? Mine has been waking up every hour for the past few days - am totally shattered!

purplemonkeydishwasher · 16/02/2007 09:05

sleep? what's sleep?
DS has never been a good sleeper so i wouldn't notice a difference!!
it's so frustrating that they're fine when we're out though isn't it?! you'd think they be ok when they are in a safe familiar environment!!
BTW out of curiosity what show are you watching over and over?

Holymoly321 · 16/02/2007 09:16

It IS frustrating! Roll on summer when we can be out and about all day! THe show is The Upside DOwn Show - was on Nick JR and has now finished. We only managed to record two of them so we have to watch the same two shows over and over and over!

OP posts:
purplemonkeydishwasher · 16/02/2007 09:19

we get to watch copious amounts of little einsteins here.
pat pat pat...BLAST-OFF!!!!!!

Holymoly321 · 16/02/2007 09:22

I hear ya! HAve tried to get him to watch that and Peppa Pig so at least there is some variety - sometimes he will but most times he will watch about a minute, realise the Upside Down Show is not coming on and then wave the remote in my face until I change it to the Upside Down show!

OP posts:
purplemonkeydishwasher · 16/02/2007 09:53

lol @ waving the remote in your face. my ds does that too!!! (or hits me with it!)
have you seen BabyTV yet?

Holymoly321 · 16/02/2007 09:56

Yeah - for about five mins - thought it was very 'Baby Einstien' - the early years! DS, needless to say, didn't want to watch it!

It could be that the water is more thirst-quenching that milk. When you feel a bit viral, you can be off food but get very thirsty.

It sounds like a combination of virus with very clingy phase. I can't explain him being OK when you're out, but my DS does the exact same thing. Sometimes he'll be in a clingy phase, and I'll have an outing already arranged. I'll dread it, assuming he'll cry the whole time - but then he charges off and plays!

It'll pass I'm sure.

Holymoly321 · 16/02/2007 12:01

Thanks RG and everyone else. Just good to know it's not just my DS! FIngers crossed it will pass!
