Funny gait

Hi unsure if should worry but my 3year old ds has an odd gait when walking. He walked at 15 months and everything seemed ok, he did have that typical walk wee ones have when wearing nappies. However he still walks like that. He is a reluctant walker and asks to be carried, it's almost as if he finds it hard work although he has loads of energy. He loves running with his pals but where they all running normally he appears to have a stiffness in his hips. I never noticed earlier as I put it down to age but now he's getting left behind.
My DH thinks I'm worrying over nothing but when I mentioned concerns to a couple of close mum friends they agreed and said had noticed also.
Basically walks like has big nappy on.
Has anyone come across this. I do have appt with G.P on friday. Just wee bit worried

My ds used to walk a bit oddly - he sort of threw his legs out a bit more widely than other children - a bit sort of flappy - you really noticed it when he ran, although I just found it endearing, my mother was a bit worried about it. Anyway, he ended up having some physio sessions once he started school as they were a bit worried about it. He's just stopped now, as the physio basically said that he just has a bit of hip instablilty, and every time he has a growth spurt it takes a bit of time for the stability to come back. It really never worried him (but he did manage quite a bit of speed, just poorly co-ordinated IYSWIM). Anyway, see what your GP says, and if you are really concerned see if you can get him referred to physio. The other thing that is worthwhile doing is sport. We were recommended gymnastics and swimming, and they both seemed to help (and you can get on and do that yourself which is always nice)

As Nooka says, it sounds like hips to me too and it needs gp to check it out which your doing on friday don't get too worried about it, there's nothing you can do until then, and whatever it is, it will be easily correctable.

Nooka, that sounds exactly like my DS. Thanks for posting feel bit reassured. Funnily he's just had quite a signifcent growth spurt/
Will let you all know how I get on Friday.

Had DS at doctors today and he has flat feet. He basically has no arch and this throws his knees and hips in. He therefore walks like a toddler. Apparently should correct naturally in year to 18months,if not then he'll get fitted with insoles.
The Doctor said that walking esp uphills, and running are machanically harder for him.
Feel so much better
