Child hitting

My DD is nearly two and is now hitting in anger in particular to me. I make her apologise but it's taking some effort - is she too young to be put in the naughty step/corner for a time out till she behaves. I want to nip this in the bud before it gets worse

Any advice welcomed

We had hitting for a long time and it really wore me out so I feel your frustration.... DS is now 6 and still does hit occasionally when he is very angry and it's still a challenge how to manage it.
Personally I'd say naughty step does not work for this. Your DC could be hitting out of frustration at not being able to communicate properly and lashes out. Taking the hard line made things even worse here; it was like stoking a fire. I think being firm and holding him / cuddling when he is angry might help although maybe you feel that's an odd response. At nursery they used to always say to him, 'kind hands, hands are for stroking and touching not for hitting.' My DC had anger so bad that i think in hindsight it frightened him and when he calmed down he was upset and needed a strong cuddle.
Have you looked at 1,2,3 Magic? It's a good book for behaviour management and also trying to avoid getting to the explosive stage.

Thanks I'll look at the boom I've never heard of it before
