Please tell me I am being a paranoid Mum!

The past few days DD has refused to sit up most of the time - since Christmas she has been sitting up to play most of the time.

Also, she used to roll straight from her tummy to her back if placed on her front, as she hates that position. She seems to have lost the ability to do this and just gets really upset.

Is she regressing (she passed her eight month check with flying colours a few weeks ago) or is she just being lazy and stubborn?

Please advise oh wise MNers!

Maybe she's coming down with something?

Do you think it's possible she is getting ready to crawl? DS (who always hated being on his tummy and loved to sit up) started to flop onto his tummy intentionally around 7.5 months, and used to rock backwards and forwards looking very angry and frustrated. When he woke in the night I would always find him on his hands and knees crying.

After a couple of weeks of this he started to crawl and the frustration disappeared - I think he knew he was soooo close to managing it and it was driving him crazy.

I'm "not sure" to all of the answers

Saintmaybe - She is teething at the moment and a bit snuffly, but I genuinely think she is being stubborn.

She doesn't flop onto her stomach MissG, in fact doesn't even roll onto it - gets 90% of the way and gives up, she goes straight backwards, regardless of whether there's a cushion behind her. She was like this when she was first able to sit up - we knew she could do it, but she would push herself backwards as hard as she could. Then all of a sudden she decided it was a good idea to sit up and sat for 2 hours!!! As I said, stuborn!

Socci - I think she may have figured this out and I do try not to give in, but yesterday she was trying but just couldn't quite do it. I think because she's been sitting up so much she's got out of practice.

In fact, I think I've just answered my own question. I think I need to put her in more positions and help her to explore them. Thank you for being a sounding board ladies! I'm seeing the HV tomorrow to get her weighed - no doubt she'll mak me panic again and I'll be back!

Has anyone else's LO done anything like this?

well, different situation from you, but, made me anxious ...

DS did not roll until 11 months, did not crawl until he was 11 months, and did not walk until he was 17 months.....was referred to the physio.....would not weight bear , would not do anything........

physio found nothing wrong, he was meeting all his other milestones, happy , healthy, eating , a good weight, settled.

he was just supremely lazy !

so of course. when DD did not roll, crawl or move until she was 11 months old, it was much easier to cope with as i knew she was supremely lazy too ! she didn't walk until she was 16 months !!

i go for the lazy/stubborn thing here too !

although it is soo hard not to worry...x

Thanks lulumama - DD is extremely lazy - she also won't weight bear!

i hope that you can relax a little .. i hope the HV does not panic you more !

LRWG · 06/02/2007 11:30

Right - am back. I saw a trainee HV who said she is sure it's just a new trick DD has discovered and to go back if still worried at a later date. That was actually just what I needed to hear I think, so am not worrying. In fact, did get DD to sit and play for a while this morning and she sat up in bed with me reading first thing this am, so I'm settling on the laziness factor

Thanks for all your support. xxx
