DS1 is just 3 and recently has decided to communicate in tongues. There is no pattern to it but he'll just start making funny noises and sounds and gets really excited. When I try and calm him down he gets aggressive and will start roaring & growling at DH & I. He speaks well normally and has hit all his milestones of development but this is concerning me.
Any advice would be welcome. Thanks

My youngest son began to talk non-sense when he was just approaching 4 - some of it was quite funny as it was muddled in with 'real' words. When he realised that i didnt understand, he decided he would teach his older sibling! What the rules were for made-up words i have NO idea!

No advice other than not to worry, i think noises and sounds and funny words that are clearly made up (to grown-ups...) is perhaps just part of exploring language.

DS (nearly 3) is really into made up words atm ... 'look mummy there is a huffenbuggle - its going to the sretchy' etc... odd but normal, I suspect...

My son (nearly 4) has been making up words and roaring for ages. Seems to have be doing it a bit less for the last couple of months so it's probably just a phase. I often join in which makes him laugh so no suggestions for calming your DS down Wellsie.

my dd has started doing this too, its coincided with moving to singapore and starting a new school, so we're not sure what it is. she also has mandarin at school, but i'd be amazed if its that. its more like she cant be bothered to tell us the real words sometimes and just goes 'bler' whilst pointing at what she wants. like a baby. other times its weird noises. she can speak really eloquently with a wide vocab normally! she's 2.8yrs. not bothered by it have to say.

Thanks for your postings, sorry I haven't responded earlier DS decided to start sleep walking that night so I got a bit distracted!! Anyway, I'm pleased that DS1 appears to be normal, just another one of those "phases" I can always depend on Mumsnet to put my mind at rest.
