Eg:

Close the freezer door please - No!

Turn the lamp off - NO!

Get down from there - No!

Could do with some pointers please. Ds is 4.8.

Thanks.

Ask once, tell once, then MAKE them do it - I do it quietly but firmly and if in public I make a point of not embarrasing them whilst I do (hence the quiet bit!) Good luckx

Yes, but how can you make them?

pointydog · 03/02/2007 10:53

Try choices.

Shut the freezer door

No!

You can shut the freezer door now or you can sit in your room quietly for 5 mins. You choose.

Worth a try.

Or try a short explanation?
'If you don't shut the freezer door, your ice cream will melt and we won't be able to eat it'
Like choices, it makes them feel slightly more in control, I think

Choices are good, I think.
It's not possible to force children to do what you want for ever, so best they learn to make good choices when young, IMO.
