No teeth at 13months!

Hello all

I'm just looking for reassurance I think. My daughter is 13 months and so far no sign of any teeth! She's had the usual teething signs for ages - biting on everything in sight, but not even a little glimpse of white through those gummy gums.

She's a little behind developmentally - bum shuffles rather than crawls and nowhere near walking yet. Eats feeding herself finger food and can gum/chew most things... No words yet but evidence she can understand loads. Having no teeth doesn't stop her being unbearably cute but she'll need some someday!

Anyone been through similar? Any more late teethers out there.

Thanks all

Fiona

Well we're 11mths and no teeth so far! but then madam appears to have decided that walking is the thing for the mo
dd1 on the other hand had about 8 teeth by now (so my baby book reminds me) but was happily sat on her arse going nowhere fast!
Think teeth are over rated anyway, they only bite you with the damn things, and then they need cleaning, dentists etc! dd2 seems to be able to gum her way thru most things, bit like my gran

I have friends who son didn't produce his first two until 13 months and at nearly two still does not have full set of teeth. Were either you or dh late teethers? His father was also a late teether and didn't lose his last milk tooth until the day he joined the navy at 18. Other friends took their child to specialist in London as their child hadn't yet produced a tooth and not to worry until after 18 months or so. HTH

Don't know about this personally, but I met a father whose little girl was born premature and didn't have any teeth by one year of age. They did come through (don't know at what age as I was having this chat in a doctor's waiting room) and he said that the up side was that the later they come through, the less painful they are... Speaking as someone whose ds had his 4 upper teeth coming through over a period of 8 weeks - every night he was awake 3-4 times!! - I sometimes wish they had come through a bit later...

DD was premature, but only a wee bit - born at 36 weeks. My MIL isn't sure about DH's teeth but says he was late with everything - he didn't walk until 19 months! I don't think I was a late teether.

I keep having dreams that I get her in the morning and she smiles one of those gleaming toothy smiles you see in toothpaste ads!

I cried when ds got his first tooth. Said to dh, he won't ever have a gummy smile again until he's old and gnarled and then I won't be around to see it... He has cute teeth - big gnashers, really - but I miss his gummy little smile... How sad is that?

Hi - my dd didn't teeth until 16 mths & apparently my DH didn't have teeth until he was nearly 2! Hence the reason why at 38 he has no fillings, as for me .... I believe they say the later the better, stronger and less painful. Hope this helps.

Awww, bless those gummy smiles - melts your heart when you see it for the first time. Makes you wonder why we're always worried about the next stage...

I'm sure DD is fine. She doesn't need teeth to eat huge hunks of melon or pizza!

Any more gummy bears?

F

I know... You spend all your time willing them onto the next stage and then complain that they're growing up too quickly!!

I have a dd who will be 1 in a few weeks. Every time she has been a bit unwell since about 6 months old we have been thinking that her teeth are coming. Still none or no sign either I am glad you posted on this, because like you I keep wondering about it! Will she be gummy for ever? Keep the stories of late teethers coming!

fibernie · 02/02/2007 14:15

I've been doing the same! I keep saying, 'this time it must be her teeth!' but no, it turns out to be a cold, or just a whingey day!
I keep hearing that late teeth are strong and healthy and less of a pain when they arrive... let's hope so eh?
love from mum of gums!
