toddlers feet point out a bit when walking -- normal?

DS is 20 months and has been walking for about 3 months. I've noticed when he walks his feet point out a big rather than straight ahead. Is this normal? I don't remember DD's feet doing this. But, it's possible I just don't remember.

Yes totally normal, then they go the othher way I think and point inwards.

Thanks, northerner. Do all babies' feet do this? I don't remember it with DD.

I don't think they all do, my nephews did the same but it sorted itself out. We thought he was going to be bow legged.

uwila · 31/01/2007 16:30

Oh no. I don't want a bow legged boy.

My nephew wasn't bow legged in the end. I'm sure it'll sort itself out.

Only one of my ds's feet turned outwards but after walking for a bit it sorted itself out. Both my dd's feet turn out but she has only just started walking.

Mention it to your hv. Ds' feet do this still and he's 4. turns out he's flat footed and struggles with keeping up with his peers physically. we've been on a physio waiting list for just over a year now.

My mum's an OT and noticed it when ds was trying to run - he would always trip over his feet and couldn't manage slides etc.

It's not a huge problem, maybe I only notice it cos I'm his mum, but the paediatrician wanted him to have physio to ensure he relearned how to walk IYSWIM - to prevent problems in later life.

Dh's feet do this and his family teased him about it growing up - called him "10 to 2" cos his feet looked like the hands of a clock. He's now in his early 30s and has a bit of pain in his knees from time to time and the GP says it's down to his feet

Not to scare you - just to inform you hopefully
