DS is currently screaming his head off after refusing two diff dinners (I know I should only have offered the one but...) he is now banging his hands on the cupboard below his 'snack' cupboard. I know he wants biscits etc but if i give in he will never eat proper meals. This is HARD - the screaming is driving me mad. This is the second day of it! HELP!!!

Easy to say but stick to your guns - he will eat if he's hungry! My DS (2.5yrs) is a very fussy eater and the list of things he won't eat is much longer than the foods he will. It's a nightmare. I usually try to give him something I know he REALLY likes and then sneak something else in with it. His favourite foods are rich tea bisc and weetabix - hates all fruit and veg, choc and most potato products. The only time I relent and give him toast & weetabix for tea is if he is under the weather as he really goes off everything else. Have you tried diversion? Tv or fav toy/train set? DS is usually easy to distract if I push the right buttons......(sympathetic grimace) Persevere - all these stages pass fairly quickly - although it feels like a lifetime at the time!!!

Hi LM - yup - give him lots of distraction - he has to have toys on his highchair before he will eat anything anyway, so it's not that. God it is SO annoying when I have slaved over his food, making enough so there is some to freeze etc and then he just wastes the lot!!!!

Ohhh, he sounds JUST like mine! DS is very fussy, and still wont eat food that is too lumpy. If he refuses his dinner (despite any distractions I can give him) I usually relent (I know, I know) and feed him bits of cheese and fruit and yogurts etc. I figure that some food is better than none, and if you just offer what he wont eat, he just wont eat, for a full day if you keep it up.. Good luck.

Yep DD is similar so I open the snack cupboard where biscuits used to be and hy presto there are raisons and such like. She is so pleased to have been lifted up to stand on the counter to choose her snack that she is quite happy.

And I keep telling myself, when was the last time you met an adult that didn't eat properly - they'll get better!

tinkerbellie · 31/01/2007 21:14

my dd is the same age and doing more or less the same

she hates the baby food now

she hates anything thats doesn't come in a wrapper or isn't a quaver!!

the only thing shes had to eat that she will entertain all week so far is scrambled egg but she's still having about two pints of milk a day

she's just learnt to say no and it's driving me mad!!

its such a relief to know its not just me having problems getting their child to eat! my 22 month old son has always been a fussy eater but now will only eat marmite sandwiches or demand sweeties....which he does not get! feel a bit mean sending him to bed on an empty tummy tho!
