2.4yo giving up nap?

For the last few days 2.4yo has been falling asleep for nap but then waking up after 10mins/half an hour. Isn't this a little young to be losing the nap? He seems happy enough for the rest of the day - doesn't get grumpy and despite not really napping he doesn't go to sleep until 8.30 (although in bed for 7pm!). He still wakes erratically through the night, occasionally sleeping through but this is a rarity. I usually wake him in the morning around 7.30am. I would rather he carried on napping until he was a bit older, especially since he still has broken nights. I could probably enforce one if I were to put him on the car, or should I just go with it?

It could be a phase. My DS is 3 next month and still naps 2.5 hours a day and sleeps 7.30-6.30 with occasionally 1 wake up when rabbits has decided to go for a wonder. We've had times were he has seemed like he wants to drop his nap and I've just gone with it but then he's been too tired and picked them back up after a couple of days. I'd keep offering it and letting him lead on it. I'm hoping he keeps his nap until school!

Glummy I always thought early wakings are due to over tiredness - I know this doesn't make much sense but a lot of things I've read say that. I wouldn't let mine sleep after 2pm so if he hasn't fallen asleep by 1.15 then I give up. What time is yours going to bed?

Haribo Mine has always been on the lower end of the sleep needs spectrum. I ask him every day just before nap time if he is sleepy or wants a snooze and he always says 'not yet Mummy!' As a result I've just been dumping him in the car and letting him have an hour in there while I sit and read! Does yours just willingly lie down in bed and go to sleep? Mine is too interested in what he might be missing. Even at bedtime when he is knackered he shouts 'is it awake time yet Mummy?' Hmm

Last month she was going for nap at 12.30 for an hour (in cot) then bed at 7.30 and sleeping through, often til after 8am!

Then one day she started having a tantrum about going in her cot so I just let her miss her nap entirely. She started falling asleep in the car in afternoons but not till later, so I've now taken to pushing her in the buggy around 1/2pm, though it's usually 2.30 before she goes to sleep! So she's up from nap at 3.30pm, then down to bed at 7.30/7.45pm. I had also heard early wakings could be over tiredness but would be surprised if that, as shes sometimes only up for 4 hours in afternoon!! Really unsure about what to do for the best!!

Insanedame-how long do you have to drive for before he falls asleep?!?

Dd1 more or less gave up napping at 18 months. Dd2 is now 2.6 and still has short naps but not every day. I think they are just different.

He is usually asleep within 15 minutes, I time it so I'm driving home from somewhere so it's not just aimlessly driving around!

Sounds like you have a good system there and he's obviously tired of going to sleep so quickly. It's taking me 40 minutes walking with buggy to get my daughter to nap so much harder going!
