Early teeething - any advice?

DS is 16 weeks old and is teething manically at the moment - he seems to have some white bumps towards the back of his mouth rather than the front, though the front incisors look to be coming through as well. He won't settle at night (and usually at about 2am as well) without a dose of Calpol, so he's in some discomfort. He hasn't taken to teething rings, as I think he finds it hard to hold on to them. Any other advice for getting him to sleep at night? I don't think his broken sleep is helping, as he's tried and crotchety during the day ( as am I!)

DS1 had teeth early as well - I used the Calgel stuff which seemed to help - just rubbing it on seemed to soothe it a bit

DD had her first 2 teeth at 18 weeks so can totally sympathise, I used calgel as well but since have been recommended I use homeopathic Chamomila (sp???) I have been using it on DS and it is fantastic you can get it in health food shops and the like.

Dentinox gel has a numbing effect . A little of that was enough to get ours to settle without Calpol etc.

Swizz - Nelsons sell homeopathic teething granules. Do google for Nelsons homeopathy or try ebay. I got some in Boots ages ago but don't know if they still sell them.

We too used the Nelson's Teething granules. DD was 4.5 months when her first two teeth came through. She then seemed to be teething permanently and had 16 teeth by the time she was a year.

Medised worked better for us than Calpol. Her teething was usually accompanied with a runny nose and the Medised helped dry it up a bit. It also helped her sleep at night.

anbesol liquid or gel from the chemist..check it is suitable for this age!

and definitely the teething powders, usually stocked in independent chemists x

You can get Nelsons teething granules in Tesco or Asda, about 4 quid I think. Worked/ing well for DD, although I do get strange looks when giving her white powder in public

Thanks for the info. I've got some Medised - will try it tonight. I'll also look out for the teething powders - I think I saw the A&P ones in Boots.

Any idea how many days on the go you can give Calpol/Medised? I dont want to be giving it constantly, but we also need to get a bit of sleep!

Oh, and am also using Anbesol, which does work v. well. It only seems to buy us about 1/2 hour at night, though .
