DD writhing on floor, seemingly in pain - too extreme for teething?

DD has spent the last 45 mins (since she woke from her nap) appearing to be writhing in pain - she wriggles away if we try to cuddle her, and then just writhes on the floor screaming if we leave her there.

Thought at first it must have been something she'd eaten, but phoned pub where we had lunch to check ingredients (she's milk intolerant, but we'd checked that with them at the time) and there is nothing remotely suspicious in what she had. We administered gripe water anyway.

Then administered calpol, just in case it was teeth or other pain (by then she'd started putting her hand in her mouth), and she now (about 10-15 mins later) seems to have calmed down and be fine.

Does such a strong reaction seem possible for teething pain - was really quite scary!

She's 11 1/2 months and has 2 teeth so far btw.

Could be teething

Could also be really thirsty - this often happens to mine after eating out (because of the salt)

It could be an ear infection - this can often mimic teething pain because they are so little, everything is so close together. I remember being panicked by ds1 at this age, and he had an ear infection.

Well she had bf just before her nap, and refused water whilst screaming, so as far as it's possible to tell, I'd say it wasn't that.

Looks like teeth are the number one candidate! Perhaps should also have said that she has displayed other signs of teething this week too.

Is there any certain way to tell an ear infection without a trip to the gp?

Ear infections can be one of those things which are almost impossible to diagnose yourself.

Once when dd had one, her main symptom was projectile vomiting. No indication of any pain anywhere.

How is she today csws?
Did you rule out ear infection?
