short arms / legs

Dd is 20 months and I've always noticed slightly that sleeves / trouser legs are way too long for her but it's getting ridiculous now, I have to roll her trousers half way up their original length for them to fit her and sleeves are at least 3" long. A few people have commmented to me that she has short legs though she doesn't seem particularly short. So I measured her and she's about 80c.m. tall with an inside leg of only 20 c.m., does that seem abnormally short? Is there anywhere I can get shorter trousers from? I do alter them myself but with a lot of them it ruins the cut. I can also get her cut-offs which seem ankle length on her but they look a bit weird.

Silly post really, sorry!

its not a silly post your obviously concerned. Have they mentioned anything when she has check ups? or perhaps when you had scans?

My ds is very small hes 4 and the size of a two year old, he's not even on the chart in the red book. i wouldn't worry too much, kids grow at different rates. but if you're really worried take her to the doctors even if its just to put your mind at rest.

No, no-one's ever mentioned it on scans / HV meetings. She's relatively small but not very small like some kids I've seen, she's quite out of proportion in that her back seems quite long. When she raises her arms to full stretch her hands just go over the top of her head but she couldn't bring them together. Does that sound weird or normalish? I'm not at all worried about her in every other way, she's bright, active, healthy, walked at 13 months.

Well if no ones picked it up then i wouldn't worry, when she's older you might not notice it anymore. I think toddlers do have chunky arms and legs, i will just go and see how far my ds's arms go to his head. brb

just had a look at ds arms, if he put his arms up they are about 2-3 inches at a guess above his head. but then his legs are very short.

strangerthanfiction · 06/06/2004 21:56

Oh, you sweetie soulfly, looking at your ds' arms for my reassurance!

I'm really not massively worried that something's 'wrong' I was just trying to gauge if she's very different to others her age. So, just out of curiousity, do you think your ds could clap his hands together over his head?

Stranger than fiction, DS has a very long back and short legs but so do my husband and you hardly notice. I have to fold all ds's trouser as they are always at least 30% too long, but in a way is better, it woud be worse if it were the other way around, I have very long legs and arms, so finding long enough trousers is difficult but getting long enough sleves is a nightmare!.

Soulfly · 06/06/2004 22:04

i don't know that one if he can looks as if he can, but he couldn't put his legs up to his head if you know what i mean.

strangerthanfiction · 06/06/2004 22:06

Chandra I guess my dd's about like that too, a 30% turn up I mean. Me and dp are very tall and leggy so I know it's a pain trying to find trousers long enough too.

soulfly, dd can still get her foot in her mouth as she's still got that baby hypermobility which I keep expecting her to lose, it's around age 2 isn't it when they get less flexible?
