What about ELC? I think I got some from there that were quite chunky and called "first crayons" or somesuch that said from 12 months.

wrap them with sellotape - will add a layer of protection to prevent ingestion!

But if they do eat them all that happens is a coloyrful spotty poo!

My mum got some pencils for my DS they are great and much better than the crayons that I had previously bought, he likes to throw them and they end up in handy little bite sized pieces! Not sure where they are from mind, but are the perfect size for him.

Maybe Partners....

Got some felt tip pens that are water soluable so washes off very easily for my DD when she was 13mths and she loves playing with them, especially painting her hand!

leahsmum · 25/01/2007 22:56

Crayola do great 'twistables' you twist up just enough for them to use and if they do put them in their mouth they will only be able to bite off the amount that is twisted up - if that makes any sense. They also now do some erasable ones - excellent for those little wall drawings!

THey are slim though - bit like a pen so mayb not so good for those tiny little hands, mind you my dd has had them since prob about 1yr old and has never had a prob holding them.

leahsmum · 25/01/2007 22:56

I'm sur ei got them in ASDA.

EllieK · 25/01/2007 22:56

we have some Crayola Twistables, they are crayons inside a hard plastic tube and you twist up just enough to use. ds is 3 buut would still eat crayons given the chance, as he can't get to much of these he doesn't bother!

EllieK · 25/01/2007 22:57

sorry, x-posted! they do them in Tesco too x

TheArmadillo · 25/01/2007 23:00

ds got on better (and still does) with washable felt tips (ELC) than crayons as he always eats the crayons

amibovvered · 26/01/2007 10:19

Only drawback I would say about felt tip pens is the fact that DS seems to be drawn to the sofa and soft furnishings every time he has them in his grasp....

belgianmama · 26/01/2007 10:21

Hmm I'm sure I saw a post exactly like this not too long ago. Is this an MN deja vu?
As far as I'm aware most crayons are non toxic. Just have a closer look at the paper labels around them. Otherwise they should def have some in ELC or Woolworths

my 16 month old has been drawing fr months

his favourite things to use are pens... espacially the crayola super washable 1st pens

they are fab!

he also loves painting and yes has put paint brush full of paint in mouth several time. we just wipe tounge with a wipe and give him a drink

dont worry they will be fine

all our stuff is from ELC anyway, so im hoping it cant be too harmful.... none of my charges have ever seemed ill from sucking a brush full of paint anyway. normally after 2 or 3 times they realise it isnt very ncie and stop doing it
