I previously started another thread about this topic - admittedly ...
a ) In the wrong section
and
b ) with a crap title !!

  • but was getting few responses - It was suggested I put a new title on it and see where that gets me ....!!! Lets hope I have more success

My DS is 11 and up until now has been quite a mild natured little chap - but that's all changed now - and having given him the spanish inquisition ( he's being amazingly open ) I can only assume that adolescence is beginning to kick in.

He's being bolshy with us at home - and sweetness and light with his mates .... and I know that this goes with the territory so I am not in the least bit bothered about this .... BUT it's trying to explain to him that this is normal and that his hormones are kicking in.

He's also very tearful - which is really pi$$ing him off - but I just don't think he understands what to expect and this this is how he SHOULD feel.

In a nutshell I want to make this transition as easy as possible for him - he just seems a very confused and upset little soul .

Advice please anyone ?

Does anyone know of a book that I can give DS to read ....
he is watching this thread with interest ... and can't believe that people are interested in helping ....

Ever since the "strawberry thread" - He thinks we are all batty

He's right of course!

Blu · 03/06/2004 21:43

Hello Crystaltips Son: you are quite right, everyone is quite batty - it's the HORMONES you know...they create havoc. BUT they also make men into the fabulous sensitive, strong, gorgeous creatures they are...so hang on in there, and when you're being all silent or moody, and your Mum gets on at you just yell 'It's my hormones o.k? Just gimme a bar of chocolate and leave me ALONE!' and everyone will understand perfectly.

And hey - why don't you bug Tech for a MN Teenagers Board?

crystaltips · 03/06/2004 21:45

Blu - back off about the teenagers board .... It's my RIGHT to monopolise this PC

Yes, and on 2nd thoughts it could be very disturbing for delicate adoloescents to see what their Mums get up to.

Janh · 03/06/2004 21:47

Have a look at this one , crystaltips - Teenage Boys!: Surviving and Enjoying These Extraordinary Years.

Sounds like a start!

Janh · 03/06/2004 21:49

Maybe that one for you and this one for DS - The Teenage Guy's Survival Guide: The Real Deal on Girls, Growing Up and Other Guy Stuff. The reviews sound quite encouraging!

DSofCrystaltips · 03/06/2004 21:53

Mum says that I am allowed to write here once. She has bought some of the books from amazon. She's OK it's just that she always wants me to talk to her and sometimes I like to be quiet. I have to go to bed now. Bye and thanks

Crystaltips · 03/06/2004 21:54

Awww - I think that he likes being the centre of attention!

G'night DSofCrystaltips - lovely to have you here. Make sure your Mum reads all these books too, and she'll stop worrying about you and leave you to be quiet.

Janh · 03/06/2004 21:57

DSofCrystaltips, I do that to my DSs too - it's a mum thing.

(Mind you they do it back sometimes when I want to be quiet and then I don't listen!)

Goodnight!

There were some books a while back called "Diary of a Teenage Health Freak" or something similar - they might be outdated now, I suppose, but they were well thought-of at the time. And there's always Adrian Mole, I suppose!
He's a lucky chap to have such a great mum - and all us other Mumsnetters rooting for him.
