11 month old suddenly waking at 5 instead of 7

The title says it all really. My 11 month old has decided 5 is the new 7. For the rest of us, it's really not. She isn't at the stage of doing something new every day yet so can't understand the earlier waking. My older one really needs her sleep but the baby is very loud. Any hope that she'll revert to a wake up at 7 soon?

What naps does she have?

DD2 has done this! Sometimes its 4! Reeeeally hoping it changes soon! (It's been 3 weeks or so now Shock )

Yesterday she had 45 mins X 2 at 9 ish and 2 ish which is about average.

And bed time is consistently 7pm - she cannot function after 7!

We're into week 2...

That's quite a short amount of nap time....I wonder if that is affecting her.

Does she wake up naturally after 45 minutes?

VioletBam · 02/07/2016 06:20

Or in FACT, I wonder if she actually would do better on one, longer nap after lunch

Looking back, both mine at 12 months or so, transitioned to one, decent nap a day. A stretch of about 2 hours after lunch saw them through well until bedtime and then they went right through till a proper getting up time...

She definitely needs a morning sleep still. She is very loud and everyone knows when sleep is required! I suspect that she would benefit from a later, longer nap in the pm but the older one is at school so we have to be out from 3 to 3.30. I just want someone (anyone!) to say they had the same happen and it's temporary Grin

My DD is a short napper too, 40 mins am and pm, she wakes naturally after this time and will not go longer. She then slept 7-6.

5 I could live with, DD1 woke at 5 for years, but I draw the line at 4 lol!

resipsa · 02/07/2016 06:39

It ours changes to 4, I might have to do something drastic (like move out Smile). The older one sometimes has to be woken for school at 7.45 so anytime before 7 feels cruel.

We go through phases of 5 rather than 6 (sadly never 7!) And it does just seem to pass. More likely to be closer to 6 after a good nap (2-2 1/2h rather than just 1 1/2h) he is nearly 2 though and at 12 months definitely still needed a morning nap! I just go with it (and watch tv so I can dose and he is quiet!)

resipsa · 02/07/2016 06:50

Yes, yes to TV. Little one quite keen on the new (to me, anyway) sports presenter on BBC thankfully.

Definitely try to push the morning nap later -10 or 11 am.

We have been having 5am wake ups for 4 days now ( yawn). My 19 month old usually wakes around 7am but has been waking up at 5. The trouble is he would probably go back to sleep if we put him in with us but my 5 year old hears him stirring and is then jumping up and deciding it's time to get up. I think it's because of such early sunrise, they wake up and think it's morning. My 5 year old has blackout blinds but still seems to relish leaping out of bed as soon as he hears his younger brother. I have three boys and to be honest they've all gone through phases of 5am wake ups, they don't usually last longer than a few weeks if it's any consolation.

It is - thanks!
