babies can teeth at all different ages. My sister's baby had teeth at 8 weeks (I have heard others younger , and some babies don't get teeth until well past their 1st birthday.

They can 'teeth' for ages before any teeth actually appear.

They can be miserable, chew fingers/hands, dribble lots, get nappy rash, red cheeks,...

errrm.

poppiesinaline · 18/01/2007 16:02

can disturb their sleep, put them off their food....

errrm...

thank you

oooooo, so 11 weeks wouldnt be totally out of the question then??

how does it cause nappy rash? lol sorry, for the bombardment of questions

Nappy rash caused (apparently) by extra acidity in poo due to extra saliva swallowed due to teething (or something).

poppiesinaline · 18/01/2007 16:18

no, 11 weeks wouldnt be out of the question.

wuzzlefraggle · 18/01/2007 16:34

brilliant, thank you

dh and i were sure that she was (hand and finger chewing/sucking,loads of dribble, can be very grumpy and a bit of nappy rash that does not want to bugger off, no matter what i seem to be doing, one minute it looks like its clearing, the next its back again), but ive had loads of people say " nah , dont be stupid, she's too young" etc, so i thought id check with the pro's

so what kind of things can i do to help with the discomfort?

give a little Calpol. Teething gel. Shes not really old enough for much else.

When she is 6 months plus you can give child neurofen but she is too little for that atm.

Drapolene is excellent for nappy rash and works well with disposable nappies (if thats what you are using)

wuzzlefraggle · 19/01/2007 12:46

yeah im using disposables. that can be bought in a normal supermarket like asda can it?? or would i go to a chemist or something? cheers, you've been really helpful

thats ok, happy to be of some use

I think normal supermarkets sell it, certainly chemists do. Its very light (and pink!) and doesn't stick to the skin like some of the other nappy creams. I have always found it works best for all of mine.

Also, I used to make my finger cold and clean (wash hands and then run finger under cold tap or in cup of iced water) and let babe chew on it. That works very well before any teeth come through! once they appear I keep my fingers well clear

hope those lovely little pearly whites come through quickly

wuzzlefraggle · 19/01/2007 13:29

ooo, i'll try the cold finger thing and i'll get a tub of that cream too.

thanks for all the help poppies

what would i do without mumsnet eh? lol
