Has anyone heard of a child at 4 having no sense of needing to poo?

Yes - my child. It was related to being constipated. She kept soiling and never knew whether she wanted to go or not. She was referred to paediatrician and put on medication. Two years on she is hugely improved although she still needs the medication occassionally while developing a good bowel habit and not getting bunged up again.

My son is nearly 5 and still does not indicate if he needs a poo... i can tell by his expression that he needs to go, but he refuses to sit on the toilet believing Ants are in the bottom, so he has a nappy on to poo in....

Sometimes when people are constipated the poo from higher up in their bowels leaks out around the constipated bit.

My son had problems with this at age 5. He stopped knowing when he needed a poo and was soiling his pants with loose poo.

Took him to the GP who had a feel of his tummy and said he was constipated and prescribed lactulose. Problem has cleared up since then.
