dd1 has always been wary of bugs. she doesnt like them on car windows, tells me to make sure there are none in the bath, in her bedroom etc.

last night (about midnight) she got up to go to the loo. she started screaming and crying about a spider. before i could get to the bathroom (iwas in a deep sleep) she had wet herself. she was standing right next to the toilet, and i couldnt find a spider in the bathroom at all.

how can i help her with this fear. i have tried explaining that all bugs have a purpose (like spiders catch flies, bees make honey etc) but she just think they are going to hurt her. she is 4yrs old.

misdee, look here !

This is Paradise Wildlife Park, at Broxbourne, I don't know how far that is from you but you could take her there for visits and if she's still phobic by the time she's 10 she could do this!

well, thought i'd update this. we were on holiday last week in gt yarounth and we took the dd's to amazonia (think thats what it was called), where there was loads of different creatures from snakes to turtles etc. there were some tranaltulas there, and she looked at them quickly thro the glass. but when we left the animal area, there was a bloke holding a snake. dd1 watched other children touching it and then asked if she could as well. i was a bit shocked tbh, as i know i probably wouldnt be able to touch it myself. I was really proud of dd1 for doing this. i know its not anything to do with spiders or other bugs, but the fact she looked at them in the glass boxes (there was a huge millipede there with hundreds of legs) and then touched the snake makes me thing that she may be able to overcome the fear of other creatures.
