When will they really smile ?

Hi,
I wonder if anyone has any thoughts on this ? My DS & DD are now 10 wks old (but arrived at 34 +5 weeks). So far, DS has produced about 3 full-face broad grins but they are few & far between. DD gives every indication that she is as miserable as sin - nothing approaching a smile at all (plenty of crying, mind you). She has always been about 2 weeks behind her brother developmentally, and was (and still is) the smaller of the twins. Does anyone think this sounds odd ? Should they be smiling by now - and generally interacting more ? They have one of those play-gyms and DS particularly likes being in it. They also like the music on Baby Einstein & I try to chatter/interact with them as much as possible but after 2.5 months of little or no feedback its becoming really hard. I think my partner is ready to leave home!
Anybody any thoughts - particularly on whether the fact they were prem makes a difference ? I'll post on the multiples thread too - just incase.
Thanks!

please don't worry considering when they were born and what you have said about your dd being a little behind you ds they sound liek they are right on track. If I remember rightly babaies arte said to smaile properly between 4 and 8 weeks. dd1 smiled at 6 wekks, dd2 smiled at 4and a half weeks and byt that I mean their first smiles not when they were doing it sconstantly.

and my 2 weren't premature or anything. also remember that all children vary greatly. enjoy your little ones it will all come in time.

Don't be so anxious! Your twins were born pre-term so you have to take that into account. In terms of 'normal' smiling, you are therefore (theoretically) dealing with five week old babies, not ten week old ones. It's quite usual for babies not to really get into the smiling thing until they are around ten weeks anyway. I remember my sister in law's second dd - 3 months old, she was, and you really had to work hard to coax a smile out of her. And she she was born at term. We'd all be cooing and grinning at her and she'd have a 'what the f*ck are you doing to me' look on her face. She was a scream, actually. Her older sister would dance for her and she would FROWN disapprovingly like a little puritan. But this killjoy infant was practically talking by 8 months or so, and winning running races at her 1st birthday.
They're all different. My girl, born one week overdue, was grining from ear to ear, gurgling and babbling all the time at only three weeks or so....but she was slow in other ways. Didn't talk much until nearly two (between 18-24 months, basically all she would say was 'mama', 'no', and, for some reason, 'tahp' everytime she saw a tap. All in this bizarre posh accent. I was being urged to take her to speech therapy and even made an appointment but then she sort of verbally exploded quite suddenly. She is STILL not reliably toilet trained (and she's nearly four): can write 'wees' but cannot always get to the loo on time do it.
Again: they're all different....
