Huge sleep regression in 2.4 yrs DD

Anyone else been through or going through this?? Will it pass?

We have gone from going to bed at 730 and straight to sleep until morning (6-6.30) with no waking at all.

To now refusing to go to sleep (I've already been on here tonight on another thread with details of this) and waking several times throughout the night for various reasons but sometimes for no reason it particularly apparent.

She is now refusing to wear her pyjamas or sleeping bag so has a blanket but I think wakes up cold or loses the blanket and wakes upset about this.

I'm getting to the end of my tether with it all. All started AFTER chicken pox - no issues sleeping whatsoever during the chicken pox.....

I'm wonder what will help but we are also going to have to try a bed tmw as she is climbing out of her cot.

I'm 34 weeks pregnant and shattered beyond belief - really need sleep right now so willing to try anything!

Please help!!!

Thanks

Mine has been a good sleeper for about the last year which I think is why I'm finding all this so tricky!! But yes I do know what you mean!!

She did sleep well last night but only for less than 8 hours which is not enough!!!

Since cutting the nap down we had been sleeping a little later (615 instead of 5) but that didn't happen today so can't really say for sure!

A strange thing happened just now tho, she went straight down for her nap without even a peep?!! Still asleep, it's been almost an hour, sooooo hard to wake as would love to have 2 free hours!!!

Sounds like you're making progress Smile it's so difficult when ur used to a good sleeper and then out of nowhere all hell breaks loose lol! Be careful with staying in the room if she asks you to, I also did that and that became the next issue that she would need me in the room to go sleep. I kept that up for two nights and had enough so that night it was tough love!! Decide how you want to do it and how you want her bed time to be, set the standard and then stick to it, even if she screams and cries for hours (which I doubt) if she knows exactly what ur expecting her to do and that you won't respond to a tantrum or mild tears she will soon get bored!

Hope tonight went well for you xx

Forgot to add - my little girl still naps. For an hour to 1hr 30 mins depending on what we've been upto. Generally if she has a nap at one we'll start bed time routine at 7, if it's 2 then she goes at 8. Xx

Same thing happened to my ds around 2.6 yrs. The trigger was moving house, previously been an amazing sleeper, only illness to disturb it. He was either refusing to go to bed at all, waking upto 6 times a night, sometimes refusing to go back to bed. It has been the most trying time so far is an understatement. We tried everything, as other posters have suggested, but we couldn't leave him as he screamed the house down and I was worried he would hurt himself. During this time he dropped his nap, which did help with going to bed, but we have to move bedtime back an hour if he does have a nap! He now only wakes once maybe twice in the night so this is a significant improvement, but I cannot tell you why this has happened. This has been happening for 3 months now so I am hoping that we are nearing the end of this phase, and that's the only advise I can give, its a phase and it will pass x

Newtobecomingamum · 30/05/2016 21:58

How did tonight go Limes?

LimesMum · 31/05/2016 05:52

So..... It was amazing!!! Put her to bed at 19.50 after stories. That was the last I heard from her. She is still asleep now!!

I'm sure we haven't totally cracked it yet but it's good to know she can do it !!!

It may have slightly bribed her ConfusedConfused....

Said the first night she went straight to sleep with no crying, shouting or calling for Mummy that I would buy her the new Bing book she wanted - probably not a good thing to start but hey ho!!!

Whilst I type I can hear her waking but can handle 5.50 if she goes to sleep straight away.

My evening felt so much longer. I didn't sleep amazingly tho as kept worrying whether she was actually alive!!!

So hope this is a sign of improvements coming??

We can get our DS2.1 to sleep relatively easy (he has just been moved to a bed and it now takes up to 45 mins of up/down/up/down where before he was put in cot and asleep within 5 mins) but he is waking up a few times overnight or awake between 3:30 and 5am ready to start the day. It is killing us! DH and I are constantly exhausted and snappy with him and each other. If he used to wake early we would leave in the cot and 95% of the time he would drop off again or at least play quietly by himself. But he can climb out so that's not an option anymore and no matter what we try we can't get him back to sleep. We were giving him the iPad after 5am so we could rest a bit longer but I'm afraid it's more like a reward and now he is waking earlier for it.

Help please!

LimesMum · 31/05/2016 08:37

Hmmmmm... Really don't think I'm the best to be advising as I've always had an early riser!

A few thoughts...

Is the room dark enough? I know it's getting lighter and birds up much earlier.

Have you tried a Gro clock? May help?

I'm not sure but iPad may not be best idea, I used to let her have the phone but she stared getting up and saying I need phone straight away! So I stopped it quick!!

Doesn't work for mine but sometimes people say books and toys in easy reach so they can play when they wake?

Sorry not to have the answer!

KP86 · 31/05/2016 10:30

Thanks for your suggestions.

We have a gro blind and curtain over the top so room is as dark as possible. I know that this does affect him but not sure what else we could do...

I'm trying to not give iPad now because I think like you with the phone it's become something worth getting up for! I have to hide it otherwise he goes looking.

Won't snuggle in bed with us, he is a very independent sleeper. If he did I would be happy to co-sleep for a couple of hours.

The bedroom door is a fire door so he can come out of his room but not open to get back in (hasn't worked out to push to open). I don't really want him up playing that early as it totally stuffs our day. He went down for his 'after lunch' nap at 9am this morning! And once he wakes, probably around 11 that will be it until bed.

I appreciate your thoughts. DH has found some sort of 'wake to sleep' method which we are going to give a go tonight.

I wish us all luck!

LimesMum · 31/05/2016 15:04

Clearly a fluke

Refused to nap today, actually climbed over the stair gate and almost fell down the stairs

I'm totally broken and over this

I have no control anymore

She won't even stay on the naughty step anymore

I'm in agony from battling with her all day and am now just sat on my bed crying whilst she cries in the living room. I couldn't risk her Getting over the gate again and now don't know what to do about tonight?!!

Am wondering if it would be wrong to put a lock on the outside of the door??

KP86 · 31/05/2016 17:27

Oh, LimesMum. These kids are doing their best to break us, hey. Can you put a bell or similar on DC's bedroom door so you'll hear it open during the night and can make sure they don't try the stairs? Or put something tall in front of stairs that they can't climb which will make it impossible to get over?

We've been thinking about #2, and I gotta say after the last fortnight I'm seriously questioning my ability to do this again.

Newtobecomingamum · 31/05/2016 17:43

How did she climb the gate? My 3 year old can't even climb over his gate. Is it a small one? Which one do you have?
Sorry you're having it so hard, especially when you are pregnant. At the end of the day, you know she's not in any pain, in danger and is safe so if you have to shut her in her room or go and take time out yourself do it. The sleep coach we hired who have is the plan that I went through with you always said no matter how hard they cry 'remember it's for attention' if you know they have been fed, not ill, aren't in danger and are safe. You can only do your best... You are only human xx

Newtobecomingamum · 31/05/2016 17:47

About the lock... Defo if you have to! We have a camera monitor in out sons room only cost £80 and we can move it all around to see everywhere where he is on his room and can even talk to him through it eg 'get back to bed!!' Ha! That would put your mind at rest as you could leave her but see what she's doing!

LimesMum · 31/05/2016 19:59

We have one one of those monitors already and yes they are very handy!!

She is massive climber!! Think it's coz we take her to gymnastics oops! It's a regular baby Dan gate, not low as I struggle to get my leg over it! She sort of uses her feet and toes to get up and throws herself over!

Think maybe I'll need to just put a little lock on the door if she keeps spinning over!

So that one day was definitely a fluke!!

Not making very good progress here!!!

And we are waking at 5 something too....

Newtobecomingamum · 02/06/2016 22:39

Oh Limes :(

What about getting a taller safety gate on her door, one like this

www.kiddicare.com/p/Lindam_Easy_Fit_Deluxe_Tall_Safety_Gate.htm?product_id=561563&utm_source=pla&affiliate=KC-google-shopping&gclid=CK6Kpq-mis0CFVG6Gwodt-wLuA

Hope link works. Or just google extra tall safety gate. If you have tried everything. I would get the tall gate so she can't get out and this is me.,. But I would just leave her too it. You need to rest, you must rest before baby comes. At the end of the day, what's the worst thing that can happen she cries until she falls alseep eventually! What more can you do!

LimesMum · 02/06/2016 22:55

That's a good idea!! Thanks! Will
Definitely get one

I'm just so worried she will hurt herself the way she throws herself around and bangs her head on things

Tonight she went crazy!! I said I would go up if she stopped crying and got into bed, eventually she did and then she asked me to sing wind the bobbin up...

I did and then she was happy to settle ?!

I know it's not what you advise and you say to just put her back to bed but that's really doesn't seem to be working out?!

OP posts:
LimesMum · 02/06/2016 22:56

She is also now upside down in her bed with no duvet on so bound to wake cold and disorientated!! I'm too tired to go and try and re-position her , can't risk her waking!!

Last night she fell out of bed several times ConfusedConfused

LimesMum · 06/06/2016 04:53
