If you had a dribbly baby/toddler when did it stop?

DS is nearly two and still soaks through dribble bibs on a regular basis. Will the tap will turn off eventually? I've never seen a teenager wearing a dribble bib so that gives me hope!

If you had a dribbly child when did it stop?

Ages - maybe around 3.5 it was lots better, and ok by the time he started school (4.5). But he's still (at 9) the kid who's always got his dinner down his chin etc. Still socks his thumb too.

DS was very dribble, he just stopped in his own time (for that read, he doesn't do it now and he's 3.5). I'd not worry about it!

My DS is almost 3 and I could have written your post. Have had him checked out my GP and been told he's fine. He's the only one at nursery at his age wearing dribble bibs... Hope he grows out if it before school. One thing I was told was to keep reminding them to swallow when seeing the dribble, although this hadn't really helped us.

Oh crumbs so we could have a year or more of the tidal wave of drool? I was rather hoping it might be more likely to be sooner!

Doesn't help that he's getting really fussy about wearing bibs, but if he doesn't wear them he soaks through his clothes in no time.

Did anyone find it was connected with teething? We've had short period when he dried up but then it had kept coming back.

Nope not for me it's all day, every day! Have you had him checked out by GP to see if his tonsils are ok?

My ds is 2 and his is definitely teething related. It stops and starts and has started again as last tooth is cutting. So I'm assuming his dribbling will stop when this molar decides to come through fully rather than stopping and starting.

Mine was still dribbling at the start of reception year at school but by that stage I had given up on dribble bibs and just put up with dribbley clothes. Generally stopped by age of 5 except when too distracted by lego to remember not to.

This isn't that reassuring, I was hoping he might be shot of it by the time he turned 2, never mind starting reception!

With all your vast experience of dribble, has anyone got any top tips for getting rid of the yellow stains on clothes, bibs and bedsheets?

We don't get any yellow stains it's clear wet dribble. Have you had his mouth and tonsils checked by GP?

The dribble itself is totally clear, normal looking saliva - it just stains yellowy over time (old bibs, sheets etc).

Haven't had him checked by GP, never occurred to me. He's definitely got his last teeth coming through at the moment but if it persists after that I'll try GP.

Through all my research.... Tonsils have been a big cause. That's why I got my son checked out at 2. Now he is nearly 3 and it hasn't stopped we are awaiting an appointment to see an ears/nose/throat specialist at hospital. I want to get it addressed ASAP as I don't want him to get picked on at school etc :(

DD was a mega-dribbler. We often had a plastic-backed food underneath to stop her top getting soaked, then a standard dribble bib on top which we would change as often as needed.

I think she stopped around 2ish, or just after. She still dribbles from time to time, particularly when asleep just like her Mama.

I have very dribble twin boys (aged 2.4). They hate wearing bibs now so we just have dribble clothes, often have to change their top during the day. I wasn't too worried about it but now they have all their teeth and still dribble so I will mention it to the HV at the 2.5 yr check up.

I have not found a way of avoiding the yellow stains round the neckline of tops. I have been given loads of second hand stuff but won't be able to pass much on because everything is so dribble stained. I try to buy mostly dark tops as they hide the stains better.

My DS still dribbles and he's 3.8! Has has improved a lots in the last 3 months so hoping he won't go to school dribbling .

He's been seen by an ENT specialist (he has huge tonsils) but they won't take them out as he doesn't get tonsilitis.

Haha imogen I dribble in my sleep as well, maybe it is hereditary!
