Key Worker at nursery is concerned DS is a bit behind.

All his other development milestones are absolutely fine. He's a happy, enthusiastic little boy.

Wondering if he might need an eye test. His eyesight seems fine generally but I wonder if he might be colour blind or if key worker is expecting too much

TIA

You label things like cars etc. Then you talk about red cars, red pencils etc. That's how they learn... It's about learning how to group things.

I read somewhere when DS was a baby that children typically learn colours at a younger age in countries like France, where the colour is said before the object (e.g une voiture rouge / a car red).
In English we will often say to young children e.g 'look at the red car!'. The child starts to look for what you're talking about but gets stuck when you say the word 'red' - they don't know what you mean because they don't yet know their colours. The 'car' in this sentence is irrelevant as they have lost interest by that point.
Instead, try saying 'look at that car! It's red!' Then the child looks at the car because they understand what you're asking of them and learns that it's red.
I did this with DS and he knew all his colours before he was 2. DD is older and so I didn't know about or use this technique to teach her colours. She was 3-3.5 before she was reliable with naming colours.

My DD knew most colours at 2 ish. Now a month off three she muddles grey and brown.

All so different though. He'll get there.
