Pushchairs? reversible or not?

Sorry, I don't know where this question fits, so I am popping it in here!
I am trying to make a decision on buying a pushcahir for my DS (4 months) and I can't make up my mind if it is worth paying the extra for a reversible one or not.
I do need it to be more compact than the one I have, which is huge, in the boot.

Any advise and/or sellers?

i prefer rear facing pushchair fr my dd3. mainly as my dd2 has some speech problems and i figure anything is worth a go for trying to avoid any more speech problems. Also she loves chatting to her older 2 sisters when we are walking to school and its easier for her than craning her head round the side of a buggy trying to do that.

What buggy do you currently have?

I would say forward facing is better as they like to see where they are going. I don't know of any compact rear facing ones as they all tend to be enormous heavy prams. Perhaps someone will put me right though.

my dd didnt like to be forward facing. mind you she does need glasses so that may have been part of the reason why.

fairysnuff · 12/01/2007 23:17

Not entirley sure what I have, a maclaren something!
but it has a lovely big basket on the bottom, but that is what stops it from compacting any further, so it is a huge block of a thing that takes up all of the boot and I have an estate car too!!

I really think I would prefer a rear facing pram, DD really likes to have someone to look at most of the time, in the house, so I imagine she will be the same when we are out and about (oops I wrote DS on my post! silly me! hit the wrong key.) but the cheapest I can find is the quinny Buzz and it seems to be going for an average of £185 inc postage (on ebay) that seems a lot of money on a pram!?

thats not a lot of money compared to some prams. there is also the loola which can go rear facing and is cheaper than the buzz 2nd hand. that is quite a compact fold but is heavey. its very nice though, but wasnt for me.

kathryn77 · 12/01/2007 23:27

My DS hated looking backwards and we have a pramette, which we used the pram mode for about 8 weeks so waste of money...so I would saw front facing best, especially if have noisey DS like me!

Have you seen the quiny zap < i think, that is the one - comes in orange, black i think and has 2 handles rather than a bar> , well it folds in half and is quite small for the boot.. I have a tiny boot and think I may get one next

You can get them for £100 ish at discount store in Walsall

I haven't tried her in the pushchair yet, just been popping the car seat onto the wheels (which are also a bit bulky)
Is 4 months old enough to be in a pushchair?
Think I ought to try her out in it to see the reaction before I go spending any money.
What a wally! imagine not trying it?
She is still just my little baby too small for a pushchair yet, but I think I may just be wishing I could keep her that way!

I know. The Buzz isn't really thatpractical in terms of basket size. But I like it because it reverses and folds down nice and small.
How did you get on with it, or did you never really like it?
Good to know it was still worth that 8 months on though.
Maybe I should tell DH that

I bought a Buzz about a month ago, my DD was 5 months old at the time. Before that I mainly used the Maclaren Techno which although it is brilliant to fold down and nippy for shopping, I didn't like the fact that I couldn't see her when we were out, also she seemed quite low down and near the traffic (silly I know). She herself didn't seem that bothered about being front facing though!

However I much prefer using the Buzz at the mo (in rear facing mode), wish I had got it earlier. It has a cosy bucket style seat which I've put a sheepskin liner in, she is higher up and seems to enjoy rear facing. I also like the fact that you can use the wheels to put the Maxi Cosi car seat on - sometimes I do this just to get the car seat from the car to the house as it's quite heavy to carry now with her in it. The tyres are also more robust for uneven ground, the Maclaren is pretty useless on anything except paved/tarmac and indoor surfaces.

Downsides to the Buzz - main one for me is the wide wheel base, not very nippy for shopping aisles, but just about bearable. The wheel base also has an annoying habit of springing open (when collapsed) if you grab it by the wrong bit - it has a little cord which is supposed to stop it doing this but it is much to stiff to use. Neither of which are deal-breakers for me though.

Another upside is that the resale value is quite good. I might consider getting rid of mine when DD is about a year old as I think the Maclaren will be better then (certainly for shopping anyway).

FestiveAtForty · 13/01/2007 14:39

oh and you can buy a basket for it now, about £18 on Ebay, it's reasonably roomy. You can also hang a changing bag (with a long strap) over the handlebars.
