Flat back of head (positional plagiocephaly)

I know that no baby's head is symmetrical but if you look down on my 8 month olds it is like a parallelagram. When his hair grows it will cover his skull but his forehead is pushed out on one side and I'm worried that as he gets older this will become more noticable. I couldn't care less what he looks like for myself but I'm worried that he will be teased by other children and may become self-conscious about it. I wanted to know if there are any mums out there a few years down the line with toddlers or older children who have the same thing. Is it noticable and are they aware of it?

I had an aquaintence who I knew for about three years from when her baby was very young and bald Her baby had this condition and it was quite noticeable at first. As she grew bigger and with more hair, I can honestly say it disappeared - by the time she was about two and a half no one would have spotted it.

I always thought my ds1 had an odd shaped head. As a small baby he preferred to roll his head to the left when sleeping on his back and had a real flat spot compared to the right side. Now at 18months and more hair coverage you'd never know. Only just after washing his hair can I see it now, the right side looks round, the left flatter.

Our daughter is 3.5 now, used to suffer majorly from 'triangular head syndrome' (our term, not medical!). you can still see it just after washing her hair, but unless you know what to look for you would not know it had been there. he doctors always said she would grow out of it and she largely has. She always lay with her head to the right and it flattened. once she could roll, she slept on her tummy and the head re-shaped. Dont worry, it will go away.

CER, the same topic came up a couple of weeks ago - if you want to check it out it's under Other Subjects, I think it was about baby sleeping on the same side all the time.

Thanks rach1 and Liams mum. I think from the sound of it I should definately stop worrying.
