Learning to crawl/stand/walk

DD is 10 months in a week or so and is something of a porker (over 11 kg). Consequently, I'm not too surprised that she has yet to crawl/stand/walk like some of her leaner friends.

But nontheless, should I be doing anything to help her develop in this way? She does lots of stretching from a sitting positon but hasn't quite managed to pull her remaining leg away to crawl. She isn't anywhere close to standing up (doesn't really tolerate being held up standing for long, and my back hardly tolerates holding her either )

still only nine months - fine where she is, don't give it headspace at the moment...the stretching from sitting is a definite precursor to crawling so she won't be long there.

.. and I'm certainly grateful for her remaining where she mostly (though she has started rolling inside the TV cabinet on occasion

I was just wondering whether it is beneficial to try and give her more standing practice (she's had very little) or just leave her to it.

My MW told me that the more playtime you give them on their tummy the better as it develops the muscles required for crawling.

DD being completely her mothers daughter first crawled in an attempt to get a Wotsit from a few feet away from her!

a girl of taste, nannyn

I think leave her to it gnu. Babies from the dawn of time have been learning to stand and walk in their own good time; it will come from her when she's ready.

I'm easily persuaded off my bum for an edible incentive

Definately when LO is up and running you'll be cursing yourself for ever giving it a second thought!

DS was 14 months before he even crawled and 16 months (last week!) when he started walking.
He just wasn't bothered at all and no incentive (favourite toys, chocolate etc..) would make any difference.
I'm sure she'll do it all in her own time and like you say, no rush... I wish he'd keep still for 5 minutes now!!

My 2nd DD is 16 mos now - can crawl 30 ft in less than 5 secs but has absolutely no interest in standing or walking - admit I am a little concerned esp as 1st DD walked confidently at 12.5 mos. Am I worrying over nothing - how late do toddlers learn to walk?
