When to give up the bottle

My son is nearly 21 months. We don't use bottles at home but he's so happy to have one given to him when we go to friends' houses.

When should little ones not have bottles anymore? I'm so tempted to get his old ones down from the attic as he seems to drink loads of milk from bottles but not from sippy cups.

my dd is 21 months old and I am not at all worried about her having her morning and bedtime bottle. I wouldn't care about her having her water or juice from it in the day either except in the day she enjoy shaking it up and down upside down and making a mess wiht it

If you ds can drink form a sippy cup or open cup and will if you give it to him then I wouldn't worry about the bottles at all

I'm thinking though that people may disagree with me

my dd can drink from a normal glass or cup and does for meals but ONLY meals or else she throws it everywhere for fun. so she has sippy cups during the day away from the table

she has a 6 yr old sister though so thats what has helped her to learn to drink from an open cup at what I think s quite early, she has been doing it since she was 15 months.

both my ds and dd were off the bottle before they were 1, mainly cos i couldn't be bothered with the sterilising and they had lost interest in the bottle they would rather drink out a cup, it depends on the child but they may just be using the bottle as a comforter.

dd had milk in a bottle at night until she was 2 and then only at night.

She has water or juice from a sippy cup from about 12months.
