Hi, my DD1 found her voice at about 9 weeks and for the past 9 weeks has been shrieking like a banshee whenever she's awake, she gurgles, she gargles and shrieks - really high pitched squealing whenever she's on her playmat or having her nappy changed - she seems very happy and laughs and smiles while she does it but everyone elses baby i meet doesn't seem to make a fraction of the noise mine does!

just wondering if this is normal?

Sounds like she is very alert and responding to her surroundings. She will probably be an early talker. She will be bossing you all about soon probably!!

thanks, that's reassuring....

my DD the same....very noisy and chatty !! she walked and crawled later though , as she was so busy making noise !!

she never seems to cry anymore either - i'm thinking that her squeals are her new cries? she only ever cries if she's really really in distress (we moved house on monday and she went bananas!).

My DS1 did exactly the same. Was a VERY early talker (though not an early walker!) and is one of the brightest 4 year olds I know!!!!

Encourage it. Don't worry about not crying!!! If she only cries when very distressed that is a good thing!

My dd screeched like a banshee when she found her voice too around the same time and she hardly ever cries either. However, I don't think the screeching is a distress signal, I really think it is a practicing the vocal cords thing. If it's any consolation, she is 25 weeks now and screeching is so last month. She now does a constant deep 'hmmm' sound during her wakeful times. And my dd smiles loads but doesn't laugh that much so rec you've just got a really good communicator!
