Just had a letter through this morning from a health visitor I have not met before
She says it's to come and do my daughters 3 and half year development check.

Anyone else come across this as did'nt know they did checks at that age.

none of mine (3 ds's) have had check at that age, maybe its something they do in your area?

tinkerbellie · 05/01/2007 11:59

my son is five and hasn't had a check since his 18 month one and when our hv came to do that she told me they we stoppoing the pre school check
maybe they still do it where you are

Thanks jellyhead.
I am just a bit anxious due to a bad experience with another health visitor concerning my ds.

Just wondering if this was normal practice or me being paranoid.

My twins are having their check later this month. Hope that reassures you.

blondehelen · 05/01/2007 15:56

both my dc had 3 and half year checks

coppertop · 05/01/2007 15:59

They've stopped them here. We just get a checklist in the post when your child turns 3 which lists all the things they should be able to do by the time they are 4.

sunflowervalley · 05/01/2007 18:00

Sounds like it could be something they are still doing in my area then.
My dd has an appointment with the speech therapist next week as her brother has a speech delay and selective mutism so maybe they are following it up to see if she is displaying any of the same traits.

Hi,

Yeah it's VERY normal. My best friend is a HV, and they have started scrapping this in most areas as jellyhead said.

Nothing to worry about. I've just had my 3.5 yr 'questionnaire' thru, and if it's anything like that, then they just want to know height, weight, speech development, can they use a knife and fork, can they dress themselves (apart from doing up buttons and zips!) That sort of thing.

Really nothing to worry about.

sunflowervalley · 05/01/2007 18:18

Thanks funkimummy-Have'nt had a checklist through but I exspect she will bring one with her.

DD has just had her 3.5 yr check. Still routine round here.

mumtoone · 07/01/2007 20:29

Would you expect a 3 1/2 year old to be able to dress themselves? My ds is 3 1/4 and there is no way he could dress himself. He can put his pants on. If he tries hard he could get some trousers on but he could not put a top on, socks or shoes. He can't take a top off either. I'm curious to know whether others can do this. In most other respects he seems to be doing what you would expect for his age.

Pesha · 07/01/2007 20:48

Mumtoone, my ds was 3 at start of august and is only really just starting trying to dress himself and depends on the clothes and his mood! but he can get a top and trousers on although often back to front and he gets his socks half on. but i think at this age it varies loads and alot depends on their interest and how much they want to do something.
Haven't heard anything about a 3ish yr check yet but could still be early or they've dropped it here. I know they'd dropped one of the earlier checks i was expecting, think it was the 18 month one.

CrocodileKate · 07/01/2007 20:51

My 2 1/2 year old can dress herself but she is the most determined little oik I ever did meet. Will not be helped with anything.
6yo DS on the other hand would still try and get me to put his shoes and socks on if he thought he could get away with it.
