tantrums

My DS is 20 months old and I'm really struggling to get on top of his tantrums. He's extremely strong willed. I try go be firm but fair, I'm not a shouty parent but not a wet pushover either (!) but I keep finding myself giving in because he's started to just scream to get his own way and won't let up until he does. I want to be in control though and an after any tips

I found at that age a combination of sympathy and distraction works best, along the lines of "I know you really don't want to sit in the buggy, but look at that big truck over there"...

That and picking your battles... It's very tiring...

join him in his chorus of nos, make it into a game and then change it to yeses.

If all else fails ignore!
If you give in you just signal to your child that you are a wet pushover!
But yes pick your battles!

When do they tend to grow out of it? People jokingly tell me around 4 but I know 4 year olds don't tantrum like DS...
