closed hands and grasp reflex still there - developmentally delayed?

Having seen my friend's DD yesterday, who is 1 week older than my DS, I noticed that her DD's hands were very open and her grasp reflex almost gone. My DS spends most of his time with his hands clenched shut and still grasps my finger, though not as tightly as he used to. his hands are open when he's relaxed, eg when feeding. He's not noticed his hands yet whereas friend's DD is wringing her hands together and playing with them. I've read that a persistent grasp reflex indicates a developmentally impaired child - what is anyone else's experience of this? DS is nearly 10 weeks old.

my DS did not lost his grasp reflex for weeks and weeks, in fact up until he was around 16 - 18 weeks old, he had permanent fists! he never stared at his hands either, neither did DD...but they are both fine

don;t compare to other babies! my friends children walked at 9. 10 & 11 months respectively, where as mine walked at 17 & 16 months respectively....they develop AT THEIR OWN PACE..

at 10 weeks old, if he is feeding well, alert, smiling, he is just fine!!

Oh that's reassuring. Thank you Lulumama! You were around when I was in labour here on MN and you were really reassuring then too. Thank you!!

i remember you !! you are most welcome...!

can;t believe it is 10 weeks already...enjoy it, it goes soooooo quickly,.....concentrate on cuddles, loves, and snuggles...because before you know it, you have a 7 year old telling you he won;t kiss you !!

i have my doula website up and running now and am hoping to get some real life experience ASAP!!
