Hiya lissie. How old? The DC, not you...

PinkTinsel · 23/12/2006 13:56

want company? we can be terrified together!

LucyJones · 23/12/2006 13:56

I could do with some beginners tips too. Do you just put them in pants and wait for the first accident and tell them to do it on potty, or just sit them on the potty until they do something , or take them to it every hour?

merrylissiemas · 23/12/2006 13:56

hes 20m, and goes into corner when he needs a poo now and pulls his nappy when hes weed

i'm just planning on buying 10 packs of cheap knickers and some warn sock and letting her run around without pants for as long as it takes... will keep nappies at night as she's a heavy night wetter so have no illusions about getting her dry at night for a year or so!

LucyJones · 23/12/2006 14:08

Oh is that what we're supposed to do? I thought they were meant to wee themselves, sit around in soggy clothes and then realise that it would be nicer all round not to wee in their pants.

merrylissiemas · 23/12/2006 14:08

ds is v heavy at night too, we have had a couple of dryish days tho

i'm not at this stage yet, but all the mums i've spoken too with older children have said the same thing...

potty train in the summer

two good reasons:

  1. fewer clothes to take off (in emergencies)
  2. clothes meeting with 'accidents' dry faster outdoors
LucyJones · 23/12/2006 14:21

he he PT
I'm confused too - someone tell us how to do it!!

jalopy · 23/12/2006 14:21

Don't potty train too early otherwise you'll be doing it until next Christmas.

LucyJones · 23/12/2006 14:22

ds is 2.9 so think it's the right time, also fed up of nagging family members... Xmas Angry

merrylissiemas · 23/12/2006 14:22

right, so what are the signs?

LucyJones · 23/12/2006 14:34

this is quite good

My top tips

read cod's potty training boot camp threads on here
tell your little one a few days before exactly what is going to happen, if they are upset be clear it will be ok but that you will go ahead on schedule (tell them about the stickers, that usually cheers them up)
On the day/night before, show them that you are getting rid of the nappies (I got different pull up pants for nights to show the difference)
As eoon as they get up the first morning, get them to sit on the potty/toilet, then take them every twenty minutes after that, even if no results. First accident, take them straight to the potty/toilet, and clean up with no fuss. First success, give a sticker (I did different ones for wees and poos) and loads of praise.
Turn up the heating, don't go out, and preferably no pants, trousers or tights for first few days.
It wasn't that bad for me, i think the clearer you are the better - good luck x

PinkTinsel · 23/12/2006 16:16

well dd checks every box on that list so no reason why it shouldn't work (she says hopefully)
