Was torn where to post this as it's kinda behaiviour but it's regarding feeding. DD is 3 months and has begun to refuse her bedtime bottle by reallyyyyy crying She has had bath/bottle/bed since a couple of weeks after we brought her home as she had colic and it really helped her wind down and sleep better...anyhoo, she has started to get really worked up on her bedtime bottle recently and now it's every night. She will not take it and after reluctantly giving up and putting her down the fussing stops and she drifts off. She is fine (loves her bath big time) until I sit down to feed her she has always loved this feed and I used to be able to count on it being one of the bottles she would guzzle. I thought she may be getting overtired and so moved her bedtime forward but no joy, so, after all of this rambling (sorry ) I was wondering for all of you who have the bath bottle bed type thing going on, do you give the bottle before the bath???? ramble over
TIA

All you can do is try and see if it works better. . Good luck

Thanks seona - am going to try tomorrow night, just fed DD after she woke up (v unlike her, usually do a dream feed around 11 while she is fast asleep) she must of been starving - she took the milk like I never feed her!

If you give the milk too soon before her bath she may be sick, also I found that the milk settled the babies enough for nice comfortable sleep, it sounds as though she's either having a growth spurt or just getting hungrier, why not try a bottle an hour or two before her bath and another straight after then she shouldn't be too hungry to refuse the last bottle. Good luck!

Thanks 3D - will try that tomorrow evening - just confuses me why it's only that bottle everyday?????

Maybe it's the gap between the bottle prior to her bath and the one after? I always found mine were hungrier after their baths?!

this worked for us - we split the feed into 2 bottles and gave half of it an hour before the bath and the rest afterwards and before bed. We did this with our lo as we found he was too hungry to enjoy his bath and hang on for his bottle afterwards, we gradually reduced the amount before his bath as he got older then cut it out altogether,

Thanks all - sorry didn't get on yesterday to reply, appreciate your posts well funnily enough tried what you suggested first steps, gave DD some of her bottle before bath - which she took really well then had a lovely bath time, into night clothes, thought I'd try the rest of the bottle.....she went from smiling to crying in a nano second Have no clue why but she has decided that she does not want that bottle before bed?? I just find it wierd that she has always enjoyed that bottle, but hey, she wil no doubt change her ways many times and at least I got some into her before the bath so was pleased.

How long does she go before you have to feed her again JustJam?
I am having problems with my little man, 7 months, used to love his milk after his bath, in my arms, would drink 90% of it before falling into a deep sleep and would go down for 7 hours...the past 5 weeks, he will only drink 30% of the milk and only sleep for 3-4 hours before wanting feed again. Have tried to now feed him in his cot, but still goes to sleep before he finishes it and wakes at midnight, then 4am. Tried the milk before bath, still only goes down until midnight...Help anyone?

Hi X - DD is still sleeping well at night (at the moment) but I do still do a dream feed around 10.30 which helps see her through I think till between 6 and 7 in the morning. What is it with refusing bedtime bottles????? Sounds like your DS is having a growth spurt but that wouldn't last 5 weeks - hopefully someone may post here that has had similar

can't you give your LO the whole bottle before bath?

justJAM · 22/12/2006 22:22

Doesn't seem to want to take much around that time - and never force her - I thought she might take a bit more after the bath - tonight I didn't even try and she still cried - so maybe it's just bedtime (even though she fusses for a second and then goes down ok????) very odd only been happening last couple of weeks.......

Is she just too tired to have her bottle? How about bringing bath time forward a little so that she's not as tired and may find a better pattern for herself.

REIDnotREEDorREAD · 22/12/2006 23:54

justjam - we used to feed our ds around 5pm, bath him then give him the rest of his feed in his room after his bath (he would usually take 4-5oz in total) he soon however stopped taking this bottle at all and wouldnt settle at all. We now offer him his bottle any time between 5-5.30pm when he shows signs of hunger. we then bath him and give him a little time to wind down with us downstairs, then take him up to bed around 6.15-6.30. Sometimes the feed can take half an hour but if we persevere he manages 4 or more oz (which i am happy with. What time do you feed him before 5? we feed ds about 2-2.30pm so that he is usually hungry by 5 - 5.30pm. hope this helps.

we used to feed ds in his room then try to put him to bed. He hated this and it would take over an hour for him to finally settle and go to sleep! hence we now feed, then bath, have wind down time, then bed.

Xuxu · 29/12/2006 12:26

I don't finish work, on the three days I do work, until 7pm, so not been putting ds to bed until 8.30pm...if I put him to bed at 6pm I'd be up at 4am every day!!!!! He really wants a sleep at about 6pm and after some milk he will go down for 30 minutes, the feed before that is at 2.30-3pm ish. The midnight waking seems to be just that, he needs soothing back down which the bottle does, but the 3.30am-4am wake is definately for a feed.
Reid, does your ds now sleep all through the night?
