teeth grinding? Will it hurt his teeth?

Ds, 8 months, has two top and two bottom teeth and seems to spend a lot of time grinding the two sets together. I'm worried he'll damage them. Anyone else found this and any ideas on how to prevent it??

Dd was wrongly diagnosed with doing this and we were told there was nothing they could do as too young for a guard. It might wear his teeth down a bit.

He could damage them but there is nothing you can do to stop him. My daughter, who is 3, sometimes grinds her teeth and I find if I move her over in bed she sometimes stops. I grind mine too and are looking at £189 for a shield next year.

It's really worrying. I just tickle him under the chin when he does it and then he stops til next time. Do you think it's because the teeth are still causing him pain even though they are through?

In older kids and adults it is a sign of stress. I doubt that is the reason in this case.

ds does this too, in his sleep so no way of stopping him. Can't stand it. Please someone tell me he'll grow out of it (he's 3).

Both my daughters have done it while teething. DD1 actually bit through to her top teeth . But she seems to have stopped now (age 4), thankfully.

We were worried, because DH ground his teeth badly when he was younger and recently had jaw problems which were attributed to teeth grinding and stress. It seems that it is definitely something to be discouraged in older children, but not much you can do when they are tiny and they will almost certainly probably grow out of it.
