HELP (go easy it's my first time here). My DS is 41/2 (late June birthday) he's just started in September past Y1. I had a parent teacher last month and no problems with settling in had occurred. Yesterday he came home with a book that has 5 time sections stating his behaviour in each section. He seems to spend his day hitting and pushing other children in his class. I need help with how to change this. At home he does what we ask of him, he plays with other children fine, doesn't throw tantrums etc. He's a very bright smart child for his age I'm just lost as to how to help him stop the bad behaviour in school. It now makes me feel sick when I have to go on the school run (his teacher is extremely abrupt in her manner). Please help.

Ah is there any chance they are not giving him space. They might be following him around too much and he feels suffocated?

It does sound like sensory/space issues, that doesn't necessarily mean ASD. You could try using a social story about having gentle hands, talk about all the nice things hands are for.

There are social stories on pinterest, try to find one you think will appeal to your son, read it before he goes to school, get him to show you 'gentle hands' and emphasise how pleased you will be if he remembers. They are not just for ASD children, they're good for any child who finds things tricky!

Repeat every day, you're helping him learn the rules. Teach him to take deep breaths/count to 10/step back if he's feeling frustrated.

He has gone to school this morning with great intentions of being a good boy.

I referred back to his pre school class where they used helping/kind hands and listening ears.

His classroom isn't very big for the number of children and would think there isn't enough room at free play to move around freely without bumping into each other.

I have contacted my health visitor this morning, am waiting on her returning my call, to arrange a hearing test.

Was just wondering how your getting on and if you've had a break through on your sons behaviour, as I am too having the same difficulty with my daughter at school she is 5 years old and in year 1 she is good at home but as soon as you bring other people into the equation she starts to show off abit which is expected at her age and when in public doesn't listen at all which is frustrating at school she is very violent the teacher says she hits out at people for no reason ie yesterday she punched a boy and then pulled a chair from underneath another boy she isn't violent towards any children when socialising at home but she is constantly hyper they took her out of her "normal" class for 6 week and put her I to a "nurture group" with 5 other badly behaved children to "reset her behaviour" got the 6 week she was good in the smaller group now she's back in her normal class she seems to be getting worse and I feel like now the school has done everything they can and it hasn't worked they are just labelling her as a naughty child and are now saying her behaviour is chosen and she is choosing to do these things where as before they was saying her behaviour was impulsive and seemed like she couldnt help it she has been assessed by and educational psychologist who picked up she was like a completely different child in a smaller group but now the school are contridicting that I have tried everything at home taking toys off her no tv no treats until her behaviour changes but non of this works she is just good at home then still badly behaved at school so I've now stopped this method as it makes no difference to her behaviour at school she can be very emotional an this behaviour hasn't just started she was like it in nursery and as she has gone into bigger classes as the years go on she seems to be getting worse I'm literally pulling my hair out and I don't know what to do as she has been excluded twice and the school have said if she is excluded 15 times its going to be a permanent exclusion she is such a bright girl and does her work fine at home but doesn't do hardly any at school I'm waiting for her to be referred to see a pediatrition but it takes time please help me
