Do any other Mums out there feel there is a corelation between their appetite/ extent of diet / amount of food consumed whist PG and the eating habits of their child(ren?).

If perhaps with one child you ate a different type of food (ie. spicy) and the desire for this kind of food in the child is distinct from the others? Or if you were off food throughout your PG and have a child who has less of an appetite?
I am both PG and working towards a nutition qualification and so far the response I have had from mums is proving really interesting - would love to hear what everyones views are...

I was the opposite to blueshoes. I ate practically nothing, couldn't eat what I cooked, as the smell when cooked made me sick. Often had take aways as I didn't have to cook it. Coulc cook for dh however & was fine if friends cooked for me.

Dd eats practicaly everything!!

Oh & dd will suck lemons, which I did like!

I craved cheese when pregnant with ds1 - used to wake up in the middle of the night to eat cheese sandwiches.

He will ask for cheese before he will ask for chocolate!

fizzbuzz · 09/12/2006 16:48

Had terrible cravings for white (it had to be white) chocolate when pg with ds.

He is exceptionally fond of white chocolate, to the exclusion of everything else now.......

Well...my Mum is a confirmed coffee-holic, totally addicted (though she drinks decaff now, bless her) but while pregnant with me she went off hot drinks completely and only drank Vimto.

I very rarely drink coffee, never touch tea...but get distinctly twitchy if I run out of Vimto.

My biggest craving with ds1 was gherkins - ate them by the jar - and he won't touch them. With ds2 it was cheese and oranges - both of which he likes.

So who knows...pretty anecdotal really.

I ate like a horse, youngest eats like a bird

Hi Lubella,
I can safely say that I'm not a lover of fruit and veg but love meat. During my pregnancy this all changed, I ate 4-5 fruits a day and couldn't stand the taste of meat, I could eat it if it was smothered in sauce. My ds now 12.5 months lives off fruit and veg and occationally he'll eat a bit of chicken that is mixed in with something like, sweet potatoe. I also think I need to add that my dh is a fruit and veg eater and maybe "it's in the genes"

Stockingsofdinosaurs · 13/12/2006 13:48

Lubella are you aware of the Southampton Women's Survey ? They get pg women to do food diaries and also for their babies every year (Me and my dd are participants). Bit more scientific

No correlation for me & my two. I like nearly all foods & will eat pretty much anything presented to me (other than very weird stuff like brain etc). During both pregnancies I ate a wide & varied diet & yet DS is a protein eater who is not keen on fruit & veg & DD is a fruit & veg lover.

I was fussiest when pregnant with the one who is my best eater. She's the one I put at the front when other mumsnetters come to view my children, so I can be smug when she requests extra salad in a cute toddler lisp.

mamijacacalys · 13/12/2006 14:43

Hmm, cynic here.

Ate for Wales throughout both my pg's (fruit, veg, junk, you name it) but am not a lover of spicy food so we don't tend to have it at all.

DS is a fairly good eater - prefers roast dinner to chips but won't touch salad .
Have only just started weaning DD so don't know yet.

piximon · 13/12/2006 15:37

I ate more or less the same through all PGs and DD and DS couldn't be more different with their eating habits. Only difference I can find between how they have been brought up is that DS was formula fed and DD breastfed.
DS eats more or less anything put in front of him and favours fruit over candy.
DD is a very picky eater, sometimes just one meal a day, who lives for chocolate and sweets (when she can get them).

Have yet to see what the twins will be like.
