He is 22 months and speaks in clear sentences. Knows his body parts colours and counts to 20 ( sometimes gets confused counting) he tells me he going to pee then asks for a clean nappy but when I try get him on potty he refuses. He can articulate how he feels if he has sore ear belly. Always says please thank you. At 5 months he said mama Dada and up Armagh our county football team ( have videos to prove it lol) he said I love you at 8 months and asked for things like juice, milk. He just told his brother the tiger is going to eat you, you better run lol...am I being boastful for no reason and this is all normal development ?

Oh bless your heart. He sounds adorable, but very much normal. Enjoy him!

cornishglos · 10/11/2015 19:57

My 22 month old does similar. He can name different types of dinosaur, and do 20 piece puzzles too... at this age their talents start to show i think.

squidzin · 10/11/2015 19:57

Saying "I love you" at 8mo is very advanced!

Mine is 11 mo and says "Brbrbrbrbrrrrrr" mostly ;)

If he has a sore ear belly, I have to guess! How lovely.

MissMedusa · 10/11/2015 19:59

Sounds pretty advanced to me. My boy is almost that age and he's no where near doing any of those things. If that's normal then I might need to have him checked Sad

JasperDamerel · 10/11/2015 19:59

It sounds pretty advanced to me, but not enough to worry about.

poocatcherchampion · 10/11/2015 20:02

Sounds normal to me and similar to my dd2

Iguessyourestuckwithme · 10/11/2015 20:06

Sounds like my 22 month old. She knows her colours, shapes, can identify and say letters that are significant for our family. She speaks 7 word sentences and asks complicated questions about the world around her.

Enjoy

PennyHasNoSurname · 10/11/2015 20:09

Sounds like DD was at that age. Nowt to do with parenting if my 13mo DS is anything to go by though- his vocabulary is basically raspberries and "hiya"

Enjoy it!!

WorldsBiggestGrotbag · 10/11/2015 20:12

Mine is 23 months and can do very similar.

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHorrid · 10/11/2015 20:16

My 24 month old can do the same, he never shuts up (but still doesn't talk as well as his sister did).
Saying "I love you" at 8 months is seriously advanced though.

srslylikeomg · 10/11/2015 20:18

I have one like that, very bright by the sound of things but... This is no indicator of future cleverness. The most intellectually gifted woman I know didn't speak til she was three and was in the bottom set through primary. Wait and see.

ThomasRichard · 10/11/2015 20:18

He sounds gorgeous OP :)

My little boy was very much like that. He's now 5 and while he's smart, he's not particularly distinguishable from the other children in his class (except to me, obviously!). He's particularly into maths and designing and building various machines and structures and he has a fantastic imagination, which is lovely.

My daughter didn't say anything much until she was well over 2: more babble and the odd mamma and dadda. After my experience with DS I was worried that she was behind but this summer she really came into her own and now won't stop talking!

DelphiniumBlue · 10/11/2015 20:18

He does sound advanced. But it doesn't necessarily mean he is a genius. Fwiw, ds2 was talking in sentences at a year old, whilst ds3 couldn't speak till he was 3. Ds2 is now grownup, and failed most of his a !evels, tough he is very bright and is now at university. Ds3 is a teenager, and just as bright and articulate as his brother.
Children develop at different rates which have little bearing on the finished article. Enjoy your lovely boy and keep giving him varied and stimulating things to do.

waitingforsomething · 10/11/2015 20:19

I think he sounds on the smart end of the normal spectrum. He sounds lovely- enjoy

catkind · 10/11/2015 20:23

The answer to that one is usually yes, both.
Fwiw my little one is seeming very bright and was not talking nearly so young. Long sentences by 22 months yes, counting I think a bit later. Was pretty hot on phonics at that age but she did have a brother in reception; did most of pees and all poos on the loo, but again more due to circs as we offered her a potty from a few months.

3perfectweemen · 10/11/2015 20:36

Thanks everyone I kno I can be biased with my own so wanted opinions. He is well ready for potty but think he has a fear he says pees and poos are disgusting. He knows all his nursery rhymes. He can follow any instructions given. I'm really proud of him :) my 8 year old was smart to just not as tuned in as baby. But he is above average in English maths reading and spelling now so I know it doesn't say how clever he be in future I'm just enjoying my babies humour atm :)

He sounds pretty advanced with language to me, and good fun! I have a 23 month old who's doing fine and is gorgeous, but he's only just starting to link two words together, can't count, and knows the colours purple and green. He has different strengths though that make me equally as proud as you rightly are Smile.

SpendSpendSpend · 10/11/2015 20:43

He is very advanced. Those saying its normal for his age have obviously never worked with children that age

Luckystar1 · 10/11/2015 20:45

I'm just dying to know who you are in real life as I too am from Armagh...

Jw35 · 10/11/2015 20:52

Yes he's advanced!

3perfectweemen · 10/11/2015 20:54

Luckystar1 · 10/11/2015 20:59

Haha no thanks, I'd rather remain anonymous, I just couldn't believe when I saw Armagh!

In any event he seems advanced! My DS is 1 and mostly sounds like a Zulu tribesman

CocktailQueen · 10/11/2015 20:59

He does sound advanced! I always lol at MN because everyone on here has super-advanced babies...

Enjoy him.

hippoherostandinghere · 10/11/2015 21:01

Another from Co Armagh! My DS was similar at that age.

3perfectweemen · 10/11/2015 21:03
